vSphere: Fast Track [V5.5] for guy never worked with Vmware

Hi

My boss wish that I will attend training "vSphere: Fast Track [V5.5]" and pass the exam VMware Certified Professional 5 – Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV) on the last course day

I never worked with VMware. I know only OpenStack basics.

What do you think?

Ya... that's not going to happen. Just being completely honest.

You'll likely need far more than two days of hands on time to completely grasp all the of the concepts and features in ESXi.

Apologies, I didn't realize the Fast Track is now a 5 day course. It use to be 2 I believe.

I strongly recommend that if you make one purchase it is the Mastering VMware vSphere 5.5 book by Scott Lowe.

60 day trails of VMware ESXi 5.5 and vCenter can be downloaded for free from VMware.

If you don't wish to invest in a home lab you can use the free Hands on Labs provided by VMware at VMware Learning Platform

The best supplementary CBT videos can be found at pluralsight.com

The best way to prepare for the exam is to download the exam blue print for the VCP version you are going to take and lab EVERYTHING on it. Seriously, they tell you the exact topics on the exam so know them well.

VCP5-DCV in a week, if you can pull that off, Koodos to you.

Scott Lowe's book will be great for someone who has never touched the system. However, When you go through the blueprint there will be links to whitepapers, and other documents. I suggest you read these as they are from the Horses mouth.

Make sure you do all the labs in Scott's book.

DCV is no walk in the park. Probably best to ask your boss to let you take the VCA so you have a little idea what you will be up for.

Realistically, it would be close to a miracle to pass the exam on a Friday afternoon at the end of a Fast Track when you have no experience - no offence...

Your boss is being highly unrealistic in his/her expectations.

Most VCPs have at least 3 months of good experience with vSphere, if not a lot longer!

Fast Track has always been 5 extended-hours days - the last version I delivered as a VCI was 5.1, it would typically be a 10-hour day for 4 days followed by a 6-7 hour last day - hard going!

What's New is a 2-day class, maybe that's what you were thinking of.

Being honest, even taking the Fast Track class with no experience iwill be very hard work, never mind preparing for the exam too.

I recommend taking the VCA-DCV course to start, then start reading books, while do this configure and install vsphere 5.5 on a lab computer (60 day free trial) Then watch youtube videos, etc.
Still though, your chances of passing are not very likely if you have zero VMware experience.
