OSPF Authentication

Reading through the OCG and it gives an example of authentication for OSPFv2. It states that it can be done on a per-interface basis and directly in the router ospf process but does not provide a password in the example. I have tried this on GNS and can only configure authentication not a password.

I was under the impression that different interfaces can use different passwords. If this is the case, where does the OSPF process authentication derive its password from?

The key is always specified per interface in OSPFv2 on IOS. OSPFv3 can be configured with a per area key in new IOS images.

That's what I thought. Unless I'm missing something it seemed like a pointless example.
