Above average IQ in IT jobs

I read an interesting article about IT employees generally having higher IQ's than most other career fields (engineering, professors and medical being the only higher). It was a great read and id true for the most part.

How did you fair on the fit test?

I got high 80's on all sections, but do not consider myself above average intelligence. Just extremely impatient with people lol

I got a IQ test at 17 and scored a 136 but most people wouldn't know it by talking to me and I myself never knew. I always knew I thought differently mainly because I'm learning disabled, so I just took it as a handicap most of my life to think the way I do.

but maybe I'll do the lumosity later, just tried to fill out the form but as mentioned I too have zero patience for filling out forms, I'm like what's the point? - I'll just read a book.

my not so scientific studies would disagree with that. Or at least think it is skewed by have some super smart people balanced out by morons. I generally find IT people to be advanced in one area, but borderline incompetent in others

I think that is how it is for most people in any profession. I personally think being smart is completely someone's opinion based on what type of knowledge they are looking for in another person.

Hell, even a professional video gamer is going to look like a genius with his gameplay at a gaming convention. But a neurosurgeon would like a complete idiot there. It's all about if someone has the drive to excel at certain skill and how the skill/knowledge is perceived by others. Could argue that if the professional video gamer makes more money than the neurosurgeon that the gamer is smarter because he choose and excels at profession where he can become more profitable.

IMO, almost anyone could study and practice IQ tests and get a high score if they worked at it...

It's true, IT personnel do not lack general intelligence; however being smart and being useful are two completely different things.

seems like most people get high on train of thought and low on memory.. mines opposite

Sorry guys but IQ means absolutely nothing in real world, test does not prove anyone's intelligence.

I do believe there are authentic IQ tests which must be taken in person with and assessed by a professional psychologist specializing in it. But, I don't believe there's been any evidence to support that these game sites do anything other than get you better at playing the game. i.e. It doesn't generally translate to anything.

Most IQ tests have cultural bias, which skews accuracy to a high degree. There are some culture-free IQ tests, where language is unimportant, and clarity of thought is tested in a more pure manner.

IQ also tends to go down as we get older. Our thinking isn't as clear as it used to be. I remember Linear Algebra class some 15 years ago, when we were finding inverses of 3x3 matrices, I could often work them in my head. I can't do that anymore--the clarity is no longer there.

I can say I often feel dumb these days around the younger IT generation. They seem to think much more quickly than I do. It's almost as if they're all on speed and I'm on benzos. Oh well

Just to follow up on this, I see a lot of grammatical and spelling mistakes when people send emails. There are typos and then there is just being a poor speller

I've seen some creative auto spellings to, so may not always be the person behind keyboard.
especially if sending emails from phone.

i went back and rechecked one email I was getting ready to send and it had changed a word to a really bad word. Lol. Lucky I caught it.
