Re: Need Career/Certification Advice
I would really suggest skipping the entry-level part altogether. With your previous title of director and a BS degree, I don't see why you can't go for a management role. Unless you REALLY want to start your career all over again, I would start looking for director or management positions with smaller companies. While you… -
Re: Retiring Military looking for help Resume Posted
Thanks for responding Psyco32. I currently am stationed in Kansas City, MO area. My wife retired from the Air Force last year so we are used to moving around and pretty much open to anywhere the job leads me. I do have a Active Top Secret/SCI clearance. The question where am I looking to get into is one of the questions… -
Re: Updated Certification Goals
My plans have stayed the same, as I only planned out through May of this year, but I did give myself an aggressive plan and a more relaxed plan. It appears that the aggressive plan has failed. That being said, I have two MS vouchers sitting around and a two week lull at the end of the month... I may knock out MCSE 2003… -
Re: Balancing Certifications & Revisions
A shark survives by always moving. I have essentially three tracks that I have pursued: Microsoft, Cisco, and Security. Honestly, from a security perspective, you need to have a firm understanding of what you are securing, else you won't be any good, which is why I still keep up on my Microsoft stuff, and it is why I went… -
Re: Passed CISSP-ISSMP today!
Congratulations! Those concentrations ain't easy. As far as next certs, it really depends on what you want to get certified for... If you want to round out the security-realm of certifications on your resume, the C|EH is a methodology course that employers fawn over, and would really add another dimension to the… -
Re: Certified Scrum Master
Comment by fivestars · · Home› Certification Preparation› Other Certifications› Project Management CertificationsYou have the same idea as me when it comes to technical certs. I have 17 years into UNIX/Linux administration and I've picked up some basic Windows administration along the way. I've also managed SANs and HPC clustering. So I feel that another technical cert won't really help me much at this stage in my career. I think… -
Re: Which degree to pursue.
I could see it being sold as highly useful for the manager of a call center, help desk, or L1 support team. Those positions tend to require more in the way of process / communication than they do in the way of critical thinking / technical expertise. You'd still have to do your "time" as a grunt, and some process/project… -
Re: The Road to becoming a Systems Analyst / IT Business Analyst
Welcome. One thing also to consider is framework (ITIL) and project management (PMP) experience/knowledge. Most of the Business Analyst I know have some sort of background/knowledge in Finance/Accounting AND IT. I have seen an upkick in BA positions as companies are looking for geeks they can understand. Most of this… -
Re: Soon to be graduate advice needed
Hey man: Was in your shoes not to long ago! ;) In all honesty, doing your A+ could serve useful but again it depends on which industry in IT interests you. Do you like business (Do PMP/Six Sigma/SAP certs if you like ERP systems) Do you like networking (Cisco,Juniper,Microsoft certs) Do you like Security(CompTIA could be… -
Re: Computer Science vs. Computer Information Systems
C-suit positions rely more on politics than on your actual degree, the "who you know" and your soft-skills is what puts you there. I think a good initial approach is having a technical degree (any one of those will work) and if you can afford it, a master. Not one in cybersecurity (you can if you want, or CS), but an MBA…
