Re: New to Security... Help reqd from Sec Pro's
Hey linkadmin, So much to learn......so many certs.... For starters you could check out CompTia's Security+ and go further into security with Cisco's CCSP which are 5 exams total compared to the 4 exams that you are taking for the CCNP. If you want to go into management later on ISC2 SSCP and CISSP are the way to… -
Re: Just checking in...
Hum.... 7 months.... let's see. There's the CCNA:Security, CCNA:Voice, and CCNA:Wireless -- with the CCNA as the prerequisite. And the CCNA:Security will become a prerequisite for the CCSP (which has more new exams). And the CCNA:Voice will become a prerequsite for the CCVP (which now has 2 tracks, one for the 4.x… -
Re: CCNA on Saturday
I might show a little empathy if you'd ever spell my name right ;) I don't think I'm going to shoot for NP/SP by the end of 2010. I have an opportunity to do some SANS certs, so I think I'm going shoot for CCNA:S in 2009, CCNP in 2010, and CCSP in 2011. I could probably do it, but I'm finding that I prefer to do Cisco… -
Re: CompTIA / Cisco
Hello ch1vas, I also believe that 10y of work experience will suffice for mastering CCNA & CCNA-Security. Now if you are truely into hands-on Network Security but w/o the PenTesting skills (that is Logging, Monitoring, Firewalling, IPS/IDS, NAC, VPNs etc), I'd suggest you follow the former CCSP now CCNP-Security path.… -
Re: Certs chasing
Go for the certs of strategic value to you. The important thing though is to get roles and responsibilities in the field. Far too many people get design certs but dont do design work. The same can be said for CCSP's and security work. The certs give you background and awareness and that's good and they can open some doors… -
Re: Finally Passed!!!
Congrats on the pass! I don't remember the specific thread, but Keatron had a detailed discussion about his suggested path for Security paths. I thouroughly enjoyed his post and actually wrote the order down and keep it posted on my cube as a reference. You can do a search to find it. Basically, it is this: Sec+ MCSA:Sec… -
Re: Amount of Material
Thanks for all the replies everyone. I definitely don't feel discouraged, especially after reading the posts about people passing these exams. I have read through each book once I do think that the BCMSN is going to be the easiest which is why I'm starting there. Unfortunately I don't get much hands on exp at work however… -
Re: Certification status on Credly
My CCSP was recertified early this year. They posted my new cert but did not update my Acclaim badge expiry date. I did not notice until 3 months later. I emailed "Badge Feedback <badges@isc2.org>" with my membership details. When my CISSP was recertified recently, i emailed them again as my badge was not updated with new… -
Re: CCIE track confusion
The CCIE written exam puts you in kind of a weird place, mainly because the CCIE cert was out long before CCNA or any of the pro-level certs. Normally, CCNA (and sometimes CCDA) is the prerequisite for any pro-level certs, like CCSP, CCNP, CCDP, etc. However, you can use the CCIE written exam as a prerequisite, as well.… -
Re: Need your suggestion, especially JDMurray
It sounds like you will need to rely on your network administration and architecture skills to keep you in a job while the security market is thin, so I recommend making yourself more marketable with the Cisco certs. You would probably go the CCSP track, but look at the possibility of choosing the CCNP or CCDP track…
