Re: need some help with certs to choose from.
Guess it depends on a couple of things but I would say A+/N+ is only a starting point and without experience, it can be harder to break it, even with certs. A lot of people will tell you to skip these certs and go straight for vender certs. For a person in you situation a CCENT (entry level cisco) and a MCTS (entry level… -
Re: JNCIS-Sec Done
It's hard to compare to the Cisco security track as I never did their CCNA specialisations which is what I guess this equates most closely to. Comparing to the CCSP itself I think it's closest to the old SND (generic security exam), with a bit more config specific content. One big difference between the Juniper and Cisco… -
Re: Security+ for seasoned professionals?
Hi guys, I'll try to provide a little insight here. I am a seasoned security professional also, however I did still have to properly prepare for this exam. Seasoned security pro can mean several things. For example, a person who's been a application security professional, or a firewall specialist for 7 years is by most… -
Re: Anyone else burnt out?
I am certainly burned out. Going into my current job, I had barely touched certifications in the past eight years, having just completed my CCNA about a year prior (had MCSE 2000 from long ago). I came upon this job and it was definitely a good opportunity, but it required my to update my MCSE to 2003 and then upgrade to… -
Re: BSCI in 12 hours.
Yep. How did you you know to make exams plural? :D Security first as a practice (real soon now)... since I just finished the CCSP. And R&S ASAP since I'd take that lab exam first and the 18 month clock will (hopefully) already be ticking for Security. I'm not feeling the love from MPLS yet, so not sure if I'll have the… -
Re: Lost in the sea of certs
Hey there! I feel the most important thing you should do, is to take one or two days off and just really reflect and get a feel of what you want to do. Do you want to move on to doing pentesting and breaking into devices/sites/networks? CEH, eJPT, OSCP, GPEN Do you want to move on to something managerial after your current… -
Re: Schools and certs...
It's a combination of both really and I don't feel that either one trumps or makes the other less important. If you want to stand out in your field you need both in my opinion. I managed to talk my boss into the full security INE package, not the on-site bootcamp though but all the self-paced stuff, for CCIE security v3.… -
Re: CCIE Certification
I am a trainer and we deliver many bootcamps (no CCIE yet, but CCNA, CCNP, CCIP, CCVP, CCSP, CCDA, CCDP et al) and I really don't find they are that effective. Sure people pass some of the cert exams but lots of the students that pass already have a solid understanding of the material before they come to the bootcamp.… -
Re: Breaking into IT?
Start little by little. The first logical thing you should do, if you have lots of hardware experience, is go knock out the A+. Then get your Net+, and maybe even Linux+ and/or Security+. The CompTIA certs are a good starting point both in learning and for getting your foot in the door with IT jobs. After that, it's up to… -
Re: VoIP simulators out there?
Pitviper remark sums it up. As far as a boson-like/nearest simulator for CCVP is concerned which focuses on CVOICE stuff (voice interface emulation – FXS, FXO, PRI, T1 and GW/GK etc)... you can do it well around 58$, check this: Networksims.com Home Page: The Best Cisco Simulator (Emulator) in the World with router,…
