Should I go for CISSP, or something else?
Hey everybody, This is my first post here, and I'm trying to get some advice on certification/career trajectory. I currently work as a "Network & Server Administrator" at a company I've been in for the last 5 years after getting hired immediately out of college. While in college, I worked for two years for an online… -
Powerfool's PMP Journey
Discussion by powerfool · · Home› Certification Preparation› Other Certifications› Project Management CertificationsI thought I would go ahead and start a thread documenting my progress with the PMP. It has been a long journey so far, and there is still plenty to go. Following is my background, as that is relevant for the PMP, as it has a daunting experience component: - 13+ years of IT experience - BS in Information Systems - 11+ years… -
The Journey Begins - CISSP
Well, like most others in this sub-forum, I've decided to take the leap. More out of boredom than anything else, as I don't need the cert for my job and I'm not sure I'll ever need it. As far as experience, I've been working in IT for about 14 years, and doing security for about 8. I have Sec+, CEH, and CASP. I started… -
Re: Adjusting the career trajectory...
I've adjusted resume/online profiles to be primarily security-centric, so I should be in good shape keeping up in that regard. I was reading a few other recent threads in this forum and I do see a general trend that moving to another organization after many years in the same place has revitalized the IT drive or passion.… -
Re: CCNP vs CISSP- need guidance
@ renacido. As I said wrath of members here but I guess it is lot softer than expected but who knows when flood gates open. I also said entry to mid level. Next, 5 years experience can be a misguiding statement, as others have said just sitting for 5 years in some roles does not make you a good security professional if you… -
Re: CSA+ align with job description?
Ok What is CYSA good for? Here's a small description what you would do with it and why it applies, and why in the DoD this thing is HUGE... I spend my day at a computer with a screen as large as a TV, with 4 different windows up one in each corner and these pieces of equipment and/or software running. 1. McAfee Network… -
Re: Prep for leaving the army (need advice)
As far as certifications go, do you deal with systems and networks? If so, getting an MCSE and CCNA (or CCNP if you can) would be ideal and honestly in 2 1/2 years it should be doable to get both. More than likely you are going to be required to get Security+ but do you know if they will MAKE you get anything specific such… -
Re: My roadmap... Here I go!
Off the bat, I like your experience and history. This is a great foundation for success in moving over to security! :) I think your first order of business is to continue to work on figuring out what you want to do, what's available in your area, and what jobs you'd shoot for. With your background, you should be able to… -
Re: Blackhat Training Reviews
TechGromit, thanks for your review, that is really helpful. Chris, Good luck, really interested to hear your review later, looks like CEH is your most relevant cert, so it will be interesting to see how you fare. BlackBeret, In my limited experience in the past when I have looked at the courses, they haven't really been… -
Re: Info Security .2% Unemployment Rate
For the lower unemployment rate, I believe it. I have recruiters calling 2-3 times a week. It seems everyone is hiring non-stop. The two things they want are a clearance, certifications, and a warm body. .gov contracting standards aren't amazingly high. That being said, I've never been turned down for an interview in a…
