If you are going down the legal route you should consider the CIPP certification. It is becoming more and more common in large enterprises and many of the people I know with this credential are lawyers. The CIPP is gear towards privacy, risk, governance and compliance so it seems to be a good pairing.… -

These exams originally started as legal proficiency exams dealing with privacy only. You could only take the exams once a year in DC and there was at the time considered a modest failure rate. Today, I haven't heard anyone outright failing an exam but hardly a widely received exam as well. Meaning hardly anyone notices it… -

It cost me 32 minutes of my life, but I passed the CIPM test with a scaled score of 420. 85% in Privacy Program Governance, 95% in Privacy Operational Lifecycle. w00t!
