Re: So CCNA... now what.
I came from a security background, unix oriented etc. I NEVER had hands-on experience with routers, only once with 6500 switches. I like routing, switching, generally i like cisco a lot :P I'm trying to combine security knowledge with cisco stuff, my point is, i never had hands-on experience but i did score 923 in CCNA, and… -
Re: Java - Argh, help!!
I'm a C# guy who will be starting to learn Java programming as soon as I can pass the CISSP exam and get on with my life. I highly recommend that you have a look at www.javaranch.com for tips for beginners. The O'Reilly book Head First Java is very good too. And you can't beat www.krugle.com and www.google.com/codesearch… -
Re: Customer service/employee IT work
@ Bert McGert Or then again he could find a job that let's him work with technology and people and you can continue to be a jack ass that most people will simply ignore. @DR_Atomic I am a MCSA (will be MCITP:EA by end of the year) I work work a Managed Service Provider and go onsite and deal with clients (people) everyday.… -
Re: CRISC Study Plan
Unless CRISC materials have changed in the past 5 years, they are extremely boring so my usual advice is to not operate any machinery after reading their review manual. Coffee was my best resource when going through their stuff. Depending on your experience and since you have a CISSP, the review manual and qae are really… -
Re: Advice on possible security career
@madmd5 - thanks for the link. It is certainly an interesting read. And in a lot of ways, echos my own sentiments a bit more clearly. The last bullet regarding application and bot threats is where I tend to see the most issues. One of the reasons why I am a big proponent of training more software engineers in security… -
Re: DoD 8570.01 CE
The requirement is for continuing education in the DoD IT/IA work force. The "new" A+, Net+, Sec+ and CASP demonstrate this since they require the person to either take continuing education or retake the test (which will be updated during the three years) to ensure their skills knowledge are progressing/not staying… -
Re: Looking to Start WGU's MSISA Program...
My style lately has been to studying for about a week and to take an exam. I did my MCSE on 2000 back in 2002 and never got around to the upgrade exams. After I completed my CISSP a few months ago, I decided that I needed to update my MCSE. I am averaging 10 days in between exams now. Of course, I have loads of experience… -
Re: WGU: Masters of Infosec, questions.
I believe that I can do the MSIA program in one year, that's my goal, anyway. I also believe it can be a quality education, and think that model will redefine technology-oriented delivery systems from here on out. I think it's possible if you have a pretty strong background in IA to begin with... I already have my CISSP,… -
Re: Information Security and Law Degree
dynamik: Thanks for the reply, I've followed and learned a lot from many of your posts and am currently following in your footsteps of cissp > ceh > oscp :) I'm not surprised that you contemplated the JD because of your competitive and driven nature. I agree with your assessment of the courts lagging painfully behind the… -
Re: Ethics, consulting, and PCI compliance.
I only understand from CISSP code of ethics would be that ethics is place to be the most important point, with law in second. You had a very good reason to move on to another company. Otherwise if there is a problem and if it escalate, you would probably lose more than just a paycheck. Consider the risk of not being able…
