Re: Passing both A+ and Security+ this week = awesome
Thanks everyone! I've given it some thought but since A+ fulfilled my DoD Technical 1 requirement, I'll pass on the Network+ and work towards my CISSP now. Maybe someday I'll pedal backwards and grab the Network+ but my interest is more in security, forensics and Linux systems. I was thinking about grabbing the Linux+ cert… -
Re: Exam on 23/07/2011 help everyone!
What prep materials you need depends on what sort of InfoSec background you have and how well and best you study. No one or two study guides contains all of the information that you need, so you must have a lot of experience in as many of the CBK domains as possible. And the freepracticetestsexams hardly look like the… -
Re: Best CBT company?
I imagine my next certs will be CIW Associates, MCTS 7 and GSEC, and from there MCITP:SA. I don't think i will need CBT's for CIWA, based on reviews here, I might just challenge it next week :p *looks* Uh oh. Looks like CIW is trying to make a move. They now count as a 1 year experience waiver for CISSP and they just… -
Re: Best route to get into Network Security(Penetration Testing)
Good choice. It's a great foundation. If you get stuck, the S+ forum here is solid. Darril is literally in there answering questions. Don't take it lightly. I took it 2-3 months after getting my CISSP. Worked paid for it. I didn't care if I passed or failed. I didn't study (skimming a chapter here and there a month before… -
Re: Career dilemma. Not sure what to do.
Personally, sharping your security skills and expanding your security knowledge will help go a long way. Certifications can always come later that help go hand-in-hand with your experience. I've been in the same boat as you and doing more of the security related tasks help provide the foundation for getting certifications… -
Re: Failed NET+ with 700 points ..... what to do next
Welcome to the boards. Failing is only a measure of your efforts and resolve. <- my very own quote You will be pissed if you moved to CCNA without ever fighting to pass an exam you failed. Also failing is common in IT certifications. In 2006 I failed CCNA twice before taking it in half's and finally passing after 4 tries.… -
Re: Passed on 3/29/2017
Congrats!! I have my CISSP exam tomorrow and feeling very nervous. I have been preparing since October, but have 1 year old twins and a 4 year old. I used Sybex, cybrary, transcender tests, sybex tests, CBT Nuggets and have worked in IT for 15 years and 8 of those were more security related roles. Do you mind if I ask the… -
Re: Is it possible to pass 5 Comptia Classes in one semester?
You shouldn't have to sacrifice sleep because of CompTIA certifications. Now for a CCIE or CISSP I would say yes to an extent. But CompTIA can be done in a decent amount of time. If you don't sleep, you won't be able to retain the information when you need it most. Some people may disagree with me but sleep is crucial.… -
Re: Military Transition to Civilian
I'm assuming that your 8.5 years are active duty and that you aren't planning on going into the Reserve to finish out 20. If you decide to pursue a GS job, you may be able to get your active duty time credited towards your federal retirement by "buying back" your service years. Depending on your priorities, this may be a… -
Re: Passed the CCSK - A few pointers
Thanks JoJo and NetworkNewb, @NetworkNewb, I am still thinking about the CCSP as I purchased ISC2's CCSP training videos, but those videos really did me no good. Not blaming the video, though...blaming myself. Had a tough time with the guy doing the training. Just didn't work for me, but the completing the training and…
