Re: Passed
I didn't find it that hard, I put in about 50 hours of study for it. A lot of it I knew before I got my book. I'm a third year computer student at a local college. The only other certifications I have attempted was the CCNA, which I failed by a couple questions and put about 200 hours of prep time into. I didn't want to… -
Re: Passed Security+ Sy0-301 moments ago
I realize my question was poorly presented. When I asked about going to college I was looking for advice on what classes. They would have to be online. It also seems as though I may be some kid fresh out of high school when reading this post, I am not. I'm 23 and am active duty in the military. As far as what I used to… -
Re: Newbie studying to become an MSCA
Hmm. Yeah. Usually when people make that argument they have a small valid point. However in making it they tend to go over the top and throw the baby out with the bathwater. It's probably in some cases out of a feeling that people taking post-COMPTIA certs without experience are "jumping the queue". It's a natural human… -
Re: What's the best exclusively online university?
Yes, Excelsior is non-profit (private), it used to be Regents College but changed their name a while back. Excelsior and Tomas Edison are two of the "big three" with Charter Oak being the other. They have the most liberal transfer policies and basically no residency requirements. Excelsior takes anything that is ACE… -
Re: Passed Sec+ but now the 501
If you want to maintain the Security+ce certification - you can pay each year the fee and take FREE courses from Cybrary to gain those CEU's you need. You might not have to maintain the cert - but if you do maintain it over the next 3 years - you don't have to worry about a future employer asking for a valid certification.… -
Re: Two potential jobs, not sure which to go with
That is a good one... overall I think I'd do the linux job to gain that experience. Neither seem great for long term (start-ups do tend to die, on average). It also has a huge advantage of being with someone that you worked with before, and from what you've said enjoyed working for them. Since you mentioned the 6 months… -
Re: Core by June 30, 2006
Nothing intended by the message. Mainly wanted a 'show-of-hands' on who was working on it as well as who could set a goal of the end-of-the-month and complete their A+. As far as tips? Have an much real experience as possible before signing up the exam. Be familiar with the Objectives for the exam from CompTIA. Mostly have… -
Re: How difficult is the 601 and 602?
Well I guess I started out nice on this site. I wasnt aware those sites were considered "**** sites" the way the school uses it is to see your progress that you learned from the class. The books we learn and study from are endorsed by CompTIA and the school is pretty much a certified partner with many major computer… -
Re: What should I do next
Server+ isn't a bad thing, nor is it a waste of time. However, I think that Security+, along with MCSA/MCSE would probably be a better way to prioritize your time. Security+ has done wonders for my resume, and it's very handy to have as an elective for MCSA/MCSE. From what you're describing, you're looking to step up from… -
Re: I want a college degree, but is now the best time?
tycoonbob Just to re-illiterate what kgb said the classes are not a traditional 6 week, 3 month, semester time frame. If you can pass a class in a week then you passed it. As for your choice of what degree and your desire to gain the CCNA certification. If you have the MCITP:EA it would be my opinion to start with the…
