It's official I am in an IT leadership role!
@ 2:43 PM central time I was offered the IT management position for a hardware deployment team. There will be 3-7 employees underneath me and I will be working under a project manager with 25+ years of IT experience, two bachelors and a masters. Not to overshadow his MCSE, CNE, PMP, A+, N+, S+. I am extremely nervous, but… -
Re: I'm in a Bind 5 years help desk exp but I've been told I don't have enough exp and A+ won't help?
I disagree with this. I have been using a standard resume template for years. I update it about every six months to highlight certain projects I've accomplished or new skills I've learned/researched. With the latest one I just updated last month, I've been getting roughly 2-3 interviews per week. I do have three different… -
Re: Do you display your certs?
The only "display" I do for my certs is whatever is under my avatar on here AND linkedin. (Though in all fairness, I do display the CIW Web Associates AND the CIW Javascript certs on linkedin as well.) I earned them, so I figured why not. But as far as the "certificates" go.....I only care about the ones from college and… -
Re: Squeezed at my job... what MS Certs?
Just a thought, since you are wanting to learn how to do your job better, why not ask your supervisor or HR dept if there are any tuition assistance programs. A lot of times these will cover certification bootcamps. All you have to do is convince your boss how it will benefit him. If you are able to do more, they don't… -
Re: Resume critique
I ended up adding date to aas, removed "occasionally" and added a bit to the summary last week (still too short?) and sent it to a few places. One that would be a 150% raise doing almost the same thing in a microsoft/cisco environment and a cyberark implementation position I'm really unqualified for but they reached out to… -
Re: 70-640 Failed
Comment by majatt · · Home› Certification Preparation› Microsoft› MCTS / MCITP on Windows 2008 GeneralI don't know what it is about this exam. I've gotten my bachelors, masters and pmp; never failed a thing and I failed this exam the second time today. The first time my prep was lacking but this time I created a full AD environment with trusts, a two tier PKI, federation services etc. I used two books, Measureup Exam Cram… -
Re: WGU- Questions, Comments, and Concerns
I guess it all depends on what you want to get out of it. It fills in a gap for those people that want to check-the-box but don't care about a name-brand school. It seems even better for people like me who have extensive experience and could probably teach some of the classes. And of course, the price is great if you know… -
Re: So what's your ultimate goal in I.T?
I got into IT because I love computers...I found that networking is where I want to be so that is what i'm working towards. I currently work in Desktop Support and am liking it so far...my goal in 5 years is to work my way through networking to a CIO or atleast a IT VP position with a good company. A few years ago when I… -
Re: Passed 70-237
Comment by HeroPsycho · · Home› Certification Preparation› Microsoft› Exchange Server & Office Communications Server ExamsYeah, 700 for 70-236, but I honestly believe there was something wrong with my exam or workstation. That exam was really glitchy! As for what to study, basically know your roles and best practices for them, how to make each highly available, what types of antispam technologies do what, how to institute ethical… -
Re: No degree, no certs, and eventually no job.
Just my opinion.... With your front end, back end and system experience you would best served (if you wanted too) to get into architecture. You could potentially receive some age discrimination, however....... Architect roles are about as age discrimination proof as you can get in IT. Time to share all those lessons…
