Re: Need Motivation
Is there a better time to hide away and cert yourself up for when the world economy sorts it's life out ? In this downturn, so many senior techs will be completely leaving the profession and those that dig in now and plan for 2 years time will do very well. Don't waste this downtime ! The future big money earners are… -

Re: newbie - career change
My recommendation is not to plan your path too much. As you learn, you will discover more and more about IT and what interests you and the practical demands on the job. You are better off taking it one step at a time. When the time comes to move beyond the CCNA level, your next step will become clearer. Some possible next… -
Re: Passed the Security+ exam
I probably still would've taken the cert just because I landed a position that was expecting me to take and pass the exam. Will I renew? That is really the question. I'll need to look into that part more closely as time draws near, but I can honestly say I won't pay 250 dollars to do so. Hopefully in 3 years I will be at… -
Re: Passed 640-801 yesterday
Congratulations! Usually the CCNP is the next after the CCNA -- but the CCDA is also an option that give you good overview of lots of the different areas (but not the configuration skills to do any of them ). Security usually requires experience, but if where you work wants you to learn the PIX or offers to send you to… -
Re: Advice CCNP or Firewall Specialist
I believe you should get certified in what you are working with now. If you are getting exposure to firewalls and you have already read up on them I don't see why you shouldn't do the friewall exam. If you don't plan on doing all the CCSP exams though you might want to just keep pushing for the CCNP and not get side… -
Re: Network Buildengineer
Not quite so much, its an international company, who deliver network and solutions to the MOD among others. It does not involve much visiting to customer sites. IT seems more involved with receiving a project spec from a customers. Then designing the solution, configuring and testing it meets there requirements, before it… -
Re: Simulators vs Real thing
After meeting a couple guys with CCNPs who got there using only Simulators and who are considerd excellent pros in their companies, i think real equipment is highly overrated. I am assuming you are talking about CCNA though. They (the ccnps) say sometimes there are just certain things that dont go as they would in real… -
Re: Cybrary - is it good?
I used Cybrary for both the CEH and the CISSP. I found them to be a great additional resource. The CISSP in particular was good because Kelly H. gives some great tips and hints to help you remember things. For example, I'd been struggling with the whole Asymmetric vs. Symmetric deal and what algorithm belonged to what and… -
Re: Education Program at work...
I'm system security analyst. Pretty manage access to anything on our network (applications, file directory, everything), SIEM investigations for abnormalities, do audits... that is most of the days. I was looking for ISC2 training because I would like to get CCSP and CISSP. But I figure since I get free money to do some…
