Re: Who passed the CASP?!?!?!
McxRisley is absolutely correct. CASP is a lot more technical than CISSP. It has been stated ad nauseam around the web that CASP is an inch wide and a mile deep whereas CISSP is an inch deep and a mile wide. I agree with this to a point. I personally rank CASP as harder than CISSP but that may only be because I did CASP… -
Re: Moving away from Information Security Administration.
I was in your exact position. I did straight Identity & Access Management, security admin work for a large bank for almost 6 years. The last 3 years of that was only because I was stuck and couldn't get out to other security roles, as you are facing now. It's tough as hell to get that chance without being 100% on your game… -
Re: CCNP Security expenses
I took a look at CCNP Security track one more time. Actually, Cisco has specialist certs. So, by taking Secure and then Firewall you are not CCNP yet, but already a Firewall Specialist. Taking VPN after that will give you VPN Specialist AND ASA Specialist. So, that means 3 exams give you 3 certs. However, after that one… -
Re: OSWE opinions
Barely realizing right now l should have answered on whether you should go for OSWE before you do the OSCP. Not at all. PWK and the Lab Environment with your time spent in it researching and attacking machines is going to get you ready for the OSCP Challenge. You're not going to need as deep of an understanding of Web… -
Re: Programming Certificate from local Community College
Knowing how to create software is very useful knowledge for many types of InfoSec careers. You will have a much deeper understanding of what goes on in those beige boxes, blades, VMs, etc. than most of your non-programmer InfoSec colleges will ever know. However, programming is not an activity that a typical InfoSec pro… -
Re: Bye Bye jobs...
That's why I'm trying to stay in an area that can't be easily outsourced, and the same reason why I opened a few days ago a thread about cybersecurity vs big data for mid and long-term careers. Point is, as things head to the cloud, if you want to stay in security, systems or networks, you have no other option that start… -
Re: Question about CISSP Qualification?
CISSP is a mid-career cert targeted for seasoned security practitioners headed toward INFOSEC management roles. To the OP, consider where your interests lie. Really before going into infosec you should have some general IT experience. When I interview candidates for entry-level positions in our enterprise security… -
Re: SEC501, SEC503, SEC504, SEC511, SEC599, what are the key differences?
Those "You Will Be Able To" are very high level, so it's no surprise they apply to many courses. Don't use that as your barometer. You need to read every course description carefully and see how they line up with what you are trying to achieve. Here's how I see it: - 501: This is a catch all class that exposes you to many… -
Re: CREST pen testing certifications
I've gone through CREST CCT (Infrastructure) and passed it last year. Definitely NOT an easy exam. I even thought I've failed it when I handed out the exam USB sticks by the end of the day. CREST is born in the UK but now it has expanded to Australia. The founding members of CREST are trying hard to internationalize the… -
Re: How many jobs do you work?
I was worked so hard at my last job (big shout out to Dynamik and Shaquazulu) that the idea of working a second job for extra money seems painful. This weekend Dynamik came over and I was working on my car and he said "man I wish I had that kind of spare time." He's obviously in school so his lack of free time is…
