Re: What kind of entry level job can I get with security + certified?
without knowing your locale i really couldn't say. I know in my area.. a security + will get you the exact same job you already have. Heck its required for helpdesk jobs.. possibly a Sys admin job... security tho? There are a few socs that have security + requirements... few and far between but they do exist and pay ..… -
Re: Passed GLEG today...
I've always been curious what the GLEG exam would be like as it doesn't seem "technically-oriented" ... although I guess legal subject matters always have their own version of technicality. The GWAPT was my most recent GIAC exam as well and I found it fair, although web apps aren't really what I deal with at work (so it… -
Re: State of IT - Biggest problem is the lack of skilled workers
Thanks for the link! This topic is really interesting, and I wanted to bring my 2 cents on the discussion, but will try to keep it short (my posts have a tendency to grow out of proportion xD ) While the reality is that there are many unskilled people working in an industry that does require above the average skill, the… -
Re: Should I skip GSEC and go right into the more specialized courses?
I appreciate your input and thoughts, but I wasn't sure why you would think TC is looking into a certification for landing into a particular role as opposed to getting the knowledge out of the course. Therefore, I would like to clarify the misconception of getting a certification for the sake of landing on a particular… -
Re: System Administrator - Long term plan
Short version is: 1. Very part time work for an infosec company. Initially more desktop support related tasks ("hey can you give us a machine that has X, Y and Z on it?"), then some basic script kiddie pentesting. 2. Got my CCNA, applied for a bunch of jobs. Took one at a data centre (as opposed to a desktop support job… -
Re: SANS MGT414 Mentor Class
Hey Kali Boy, I've taken the MGT414 course and earned the GISP, but didn't go and sit for the CISSP. I was apart of the work study program and got picked a couple years ago for the MGT414 course. The course content is very solid and there's a high percentage of people who take the content and go for the CISSP exam shortly… -
Re: Questions/Suggestions
No one's going to understand everything that happens in a SOC. The GSEC should have given you a general idea of a lot of what goes in there. I'll try and break them down in to the different areas you likely have there and what you can use to study them. The people using ArcSight and the related appliances are network… -
eLearnSecurity Threat Hunting Professional - My course and exam review
Hello all, I've just finished THP course from eLearnSecurity and passed certification exam. So, as I promised here is my course review. Background Before I start my course review itself, I'd like to shortly describe how I came up with an idea to take it. Originally, I'm a Red teamer and have over 6 years experience in… -

Norwich University - BS in Cyber Security --> MS ISA Comparison
I am opening this thread to give a comparison of the two programs and a running update of the MSISA as I am about to start the MSISA program in December. I suspect there will be some overlap between the two programs, with the MSISA diving much deeper into the subject areas. Background: I currently work in the cybersecurity…
