Re: Trying to decide on WGU
Wait till you see the Masters program. There are 18 classes in the MSISA, 30 books in total, 2 of the classes have 5 books each (CEH and CHFI). One book for the wireless class is $495. Total cost of all books on amazon is around $2300. Actually they have 1 book that spans 3 classes as well so I didn't include it 3 times.… -
Re: WGU MSISA Review
Cyber, I get what you are saying - I felt the same way - but then I realized that just mean I had really, really good work experience, that was actually preparing me for master's - level work, if that makes sense. Starting out with extensive knowledge puts you so far ahead of the learning curve, it can really seem that… -
Re: In progress certification on my resume?
I'm not a fan of it. If you don't have it, it shouldn't go on there. Using that type of tactic, I could put "PHD in progress, est completion 2022." Where do you draw the line? Do you put expired certifications on there as well? It just looks like you're grasping for recognition of something you don't have. If it's a job… -
Re: Testing on CISSP 14 April 2014
Covered encryption tonight...was surprised by how quick this domain went down. I was done in about two hours, though I do need to go back and review some things (mostly the bit sizes). Averaged a 67 over three tests, which was a lot higher than I thought I would do...I got the 10,000ft to 1,000ft view down, just need to… -
Re: Newbie seeking security advice
Hello Victor. And welcome to TE. My suggestion is to not over-analyze and just figure out the next step. Do you already have the CCNA and/or CCNP? Since your interest is in network security, those would be good certifications to start with. You could also deepen your security knowledge and challenge yourself by doing… -
Re: Passed CEHv8 - Question about ECC and VUE?
Congrats on the pass! When I paid and registered for my CEH, I got a voucher code and an authorization code. I was told the eligibility code would be needed to show the testing center that I had been pre-approved by EC-Council (2 years experience verified by supervisor). When I went to the testing center (PearsonVue), they… -
Re: How many Certifications are enough?
My employer pays for one professional association membership per year, which includes my (ISC)2 membership. I did prepay a year last year, so I can pick something different this year. I figure CISSP, CEH, and PMP may be all that I actively maintain that require CPEs and membership. The Cisco stuff gets renewed with new… -
Re: Cyber security carrer path
I myself is interested in Cyber Security, but I am more interested in Red Teaming than anything else. Check out UNLV, I think they have a cyber security research program there, but I could be wrong. A friend of mine got into a Cyber Security gig through his hackerspace. He started late like I did, but he showed interest… -
Re: Resources for GIAC GISF
Can't comment on how hard the test is. As will all things it depends on how well you know the material. People here have successfully challenged 400, 500, and 600 series GIAC tests, so yes, it's doable if you dedicate some good time to understand the material covered. I measure certs on two fronts: ROI, and knowledge… -
Re: CISSP-ISSAP or GSEC
While I don't disagree with b/eads on the obscurity of the ISSAP, the GIAC certs aren't exactly household names either as far as that goes. If you went to a university where the SANS courses were offered or if you fall under DoD 8570 you are aware of them, otherwise you might have never heard of them until you began…
