Re: Anyone set up a linux desktop/server?
Well this thread did teach me a couple of things but the most important 1 is the CLI is still kicking, which is good (i guess). My primary focus are networking certifications and my network degree (see certs in my sig). Since I want to be the best, I will obviously need to be somewhat verse in servers as well. Switching… -
Re: Where are you at, where do you want to be?
I am currently working in a NOC. I get a lot of hands on time with a bunch of technologies I'm really interested in (Lots of linux and networking experience). And since we're a small company that's stretched fairly thin, I get to play with a lot of things I don't think I'd be able to anywhere else. I'm fairly comfortable… -
Re: CCENT > Network + ?
I plan on taking the CCENT one day.....After I clean Linux+ and CEH off my plate..... I'm not on the "NET+ is worthless" train. I think I lot of getting jobs in IT is based on how you package yourself...for example, Net + with nothing else may not land you a network/sys admin position by itself, but Net + along with… -
Re: Passed Security+ today!
Thanks everybody! I used the Sybex book for my initial study, then followed it up with the Preplogic Security+ Examcram Guide, then I just hammered away at every free web-based practice exam I could find until I was consistently scoring 90% or better. There wasn't really any topic that I felt came out of left field on the… -
Re: Entry Level Information Security hope
I believe it gets you DOD compliant, which in certain sectors is what HR is looking for. That said, I'm not sure CISSP is the best application of effort, because positions seeking it will most likely be somewhat senior. As to the OP's question, I recently started an entry level security position in CA with a background… -
Re: Arch Exam 642-873 (CCDP)
I'm scheduled to take the ARCH exam on Sunday. I'm not completely confident but I'm attending a CEH class on Monday. I read the book. I think if it had animated demos or diagrams, it would definitely help get some of the concepts across since this is mostly theory based. I have the ARCH book, Quick reference guide, CBT… -
Re: Who took CISSP test after April 15th so far?
Redacted quote: "My last thought on this is about the cert in general. I've observed a trend of entry-level or non-security-focused IT folks testing for CISSP as if it were an entry-level security cert. I know some of this is due to HR ignorance of other security certs and also the value of other IT certs for security… -
Re: Well paid entry-level InfoSec jobs?
Helpdesk did not help me much at all security wise. It was the first step because I had no real world experience with networks besides the POS home network I had which never had real problems because nobody but myself used it. At my last job and the new one I start next week I will have to scan, collect reports. Manually… -
Re: The Reserves and IT
I'm a ex Airmen via ANG most cyber jobs in my branch service falls under 3DXxxxx. Re: Colorado State University Global Campus
I suggest you take a look at University of Maryland - University College. It is well respected in the military. I am currently enrolled in the BS-Computer Networks and Security program and it has been amazing so far. Many of my cohorts are 5-10 year experienced admins and engineers in the Navy, Army, and Air Force. Some…
