Re: moving exchange to a DMZ
Comment by famosbrown · · Home› Certification Preparation› Microsoft› Exchange Server & Office Communications Server ExamsWell...I will have to read through your entire post a little later, but I did skim. I can and will not give examples of appliances used as that would be irresponsible and would give a potential attacker more information and leverage in attacking. I don't have the exact number, but we get at least 100K hack attempts per… -
Re: Did I Say the Wrong Thing?
First, not offended by anything anyone has posted so far. You guys are right I probably should have held back. But, sadly, I've never held back on what I have thought in any given environment. For the most part that has served me well, but as you guys have said probably wasn't the best for this situation. I've had a lot of… -
Re: GCIA and general security cert advise
The only official study materials are available from SANS. If you just want just the books, it costs $3,161 (the self-study option). You can also add the OnDemand bundle for $400 which gives you a few months of access to the latest online audio / video slide presentations and MP3s of the course. You can register for a… -
Re: Windows 7/Kali linux dual boot fail
Been there and done that, I even have the T-shirt. Now that computers are fast enough, have more than enough drive space, and other neat things that make virtualization easy I've given up on dual boot with rare exceptions. I have dual boot machines around the house, all but one pre-date my decision to give up on dual boot… -
Re: BS in Computer Science then 10 years blank, what now?
If you already have a BS in Computer Science, it wouldn't make sense to get back into school and get a less technical degree. I would say that your biggest obstacle is probably a simple one to fix: Updating your knowledge and making yourself a tad more marketable. Certifications will definitely help with that. I'm not sure… -
Re: Anyone else burnt out?
I am certainly burned out. Going into my current job, I had barely touched certifications in the past eight years, having just completed my CCNA about a year prior (had MCSE 2000 from long ago). I came upon this job and it was definitely a good opportunity, but it required my to update my MCSE to 2003 and then upgrade to… -
Re: OSWP Progress
It's not much of us left around! I have been lucky with SANS courses somewhat. The first SANS course I ever took I paid out of the pocket. I was hooah. To be honest I was trying to break into security. Everyone I knew had Security+, CEH, and a few other entry level "security certifications". I was like I really have to… -
Re: What jobs will you never get without a degree?
I have been going to college(s) over the last few years, but I had to stop again from lack of funds. I have enough to pursue certs, though. So I was considering getting an A+, Net+, Sec+, then maybe the CEH, and others. But even if I get all those, I would still not have a degree, military experience, or security… -
Re: Security+ or CSA+?
Just going to be completely honest. Whoever wants to take it for what it is can. I am not trying to be negative in anyway, but here is my story. Sec+ I got from the military, because it was required to maintain my job in the military. I received A+ as well. This was many years ago. They both were a complete waste. Did… -
Re: Venting, hating, about to quit WGU...
I definitely feel your pain. The only assignments I ever had in TaskStream with my BS:Network Administration from them was for my Capstone (plan and implementation courses). However, let's go into the Master's program, where ALL but 2 "classes" are TaskStream assignments: CEH and CHFI certifications. There have been VERY…
