Re: Do people actually pass the test after a week or two of study?
And if you read either Darril's book Or the Sybex, both of those are pretty much explained (though Darril is much more straight to the point). Plus, the fact that you have A+ and Network+ will more or less carry you in the Security+ depending on how well you know PCs and Networks. But even independent of that, this exam is… -
Re: Where do you go to network with others in your same field?
(ISC)^2 (CISSP/SSCP) sponsors many meetings all over the world for various things that are often free or reduced cost for members. Since we have to earn CPE credits anyway and these count for a good bit they are very popular. It's good to have some security background since i kinda get what they are talking about but we… -
Re: If you had the opportunity to do any course, what would it be and why?
Agree with the posters above. Do what you enjoy NOW. Things will change. I have done Help Desk and System Administration for quite some time. So my certs are MCSA and VCP5. I'm thinking more of management roles so my certs will progress to PMP. I already have ITIL. Maybe 2 years down the road I might do infosec equal SCCP… -
Re: Have you ever started down a certification path only to find out.......
Yes I kind of felt that way when I first started studying for the CCENT. Never really configured any routers except in labs. I am studying for it again because of handed down responsibility from my job (CUCM administration) I really wanted to get into Security at one point but realized I probably would never get a job… -
Re: ICND 1 100-101 Passed! Need help with the next step
I would continue to post resumes and apply for jobs, regardless if you have the experience needed. Some companies just want to know that you are teachable. Every CCIE/CISSP/veteran started out with NO experience, education or certs. It starts from somewhere. Withthat said: I would be as realistic as possible though. Hardly… -
Re: Foote Partners Hot List for IT Certs. July 09
The GIAC certifications are the SANS Institute certifications, which are actually well respected in the security realm. EMC (as well as Brocade) is storage, which is also pretty hot right now. I don't get things like the SCNA; who knows what that is? How does that surprise the CISSP, which is well-known and well-respected?… -
Re: Should I skip GSEC and go right into the more specialized courses?
It really depends on your background. I am mentoring an analyst at work who is getting a SANS class next year. He has a Security+ and a CISSP (With a waiver for not having the 5 years of experience). In his case, I steered him away from the GSEC because he already has "baseline" certs. I pushed him towards one of the more… -
Re: Sony Pictures Attacked, 1 Million Users Compromised
It will be like the former CEO of HP. 'Your rubbish. Here is 50 million dollars to leave now, not sue us and keep your mouth shut. Sign here..' They will need to fire someone to keep their jobs. I imagine the CISSP and other security certificates are coming down from cube walls rapidly. Not a good time to be pushing for… -
Re: WGU: MBA, MBA-IT, MS IT Mgmt or MSCSIA not sure I wan't to be in IT anymore
<MBA,CASP,CISSP... still has high stress and works 80 hours a week ( two full time jobs ) I can do this for about 3 more years but then it is time to slow down to 70 hours a week and move into MGT. I understand what you mean ... IT lost its fun long ago.... just pays the bills that is all... *edit If you want to move into… -
Re: Do you find yourself forgetting Cert stuff?
This happens to me, as well. I do find when I have to go back to refresh my memory, I actually wind up learning something new. What I'm trying to do now is, if I'm learning something new, take a day to go back to refresh on a prior topic. I'm going to start studying for CISSP, but one day a week, I'll try to dedicate some…
