Re: I'm ready to walk out the door without 2 weeks notice.
OP, I'd hit the bricks. Let your manager know why you're leaving (in graphic detail). I hear CISSPs are in demand... absolutely. What I've seen is, ignore IT Sec, get hacked, then blame IT Sec and retrofit. Ignore the new guys as well, rinse repeat. Where I'm at now, IT Sec has the capability to dead stop cold any project… -
Re: How much downtime do you get in work?
I'm an IT Manager and I have nothing but down time. I was busy the first 6 months, but I'm two years in and there haven't been any recent developments in the company requiring technology. I was going out of mind until I started studying for the CISSP. I'm not sure if I will hang out here a while or what. They would… -
Re: Have a degree and multiple certifications but no job experience! No one will hire me
Just to be clear, you aren’t talking about expert certifications right? CCIE, GSE, the Juniper equivalent are all expert high level certifications, none of which require documented experience to sit/claim. Also, CISSP/CISA/CISM etc. all let you sit for the exam prior to having the experience and give a time frame you have… -
Re: New To Posting...
Thanks for the info Chris. dynamik let me use one of his practice tests for the GSEC and I scored 62.2% on the test with where I am at now. I really like the test layout and how the questions make you think things out rather then oh ya I memorized that. I hope to take this in about 6 months or so. Good luck with the gold… -
Re: Security
Hi, Although I don't like the Security+ exam because of the low-quality exam, it has the right topics to start a security carreer, and is a great intro for SSCP. I seriously believe those who wrote the sec+ exam based it on SSCP/CISSP material, hence there is huge amount of overlap. If you have the required experience (see… -
Re: SANS course
I'm assuming the purpose of the pirating would be to create cheating materials to help people successfully challenge the GIAC exams. It would also allow SANS' competition to augment their own training materials by incorporating SANS' own information. However, either of these objectives can be accomplished by repeatedly… -
Re: Considering CEH
I'd get WGU on the hook for the price. It won't be overwhelming. It doesn't get deep into anything. Most of the logic questions will roll over from your CISSP. The rest is extremely base level stuff in anything involving any of the tools. It is interesting, but it's just a start. Nessus and Wireshark have certs just on… -
Re: IT Security Certification..
If you want to go into management then CISSP, CISM, CRISC, CISA (all have specific experience requirements that you may not meet) If you want to go into the operations side, then you have many options. For a generic list of categories you can branch into then I recommend looking at the course list at SANS -… -
Re: Resume time
I agree, but I am grossly under-certified relative to my skill level and experience. I would come off as a mid-level or junior admin if I listed my certs first. If and when I get my CISSP or MCSE or something, they will go first. I would probably put my CS degree when it's finished first as well, depending on what sorts of… -
Re: c
That is what I have heard from CISSPs and others. I currently install, troubleshoot, and configure whole-drive encryption installations for my company. I also deal with setting up local security rights, adding PCs to the domain, and password resets. I am not a part of the security team, but much of my work is security…
