Re: What Jobs are availabe for those who want Information Security
I agree with Paul on this. Several of my ex coworkers who are now in security have no degree. Only one guy I previously worked with had a degree and who is now a associate security analyst. None had certifications either but they all had previous IT knowledge. Most of which was on the help desk. They did work with access… -
Re: Which certifications would you remove/add if you had the chance
Sec+ was probably one i didn't really *need*, and I don't put it on my resume, but it was a nice warmup for CISSP, so in that role, it was worthwhile. JNCIA-JUNOS will depend on where I go next as to if it will be useful or not. I dig the Juniper stuff and getting a solid intro to it was a good thing, but unless I end up… -
Re: Job Interview via Video Conference This Friday - Need Opinions!
Interview went okay, I flubbed some areas and nailed others. Technical questions I handled quite well. It was the "give an example of when you showed leadership BS" that I didnt do well on. Anyway, the Job description and actual Job duties according the hiring manager were two different things. After the interview I said… -
Re: How many hours do you study a week?
Not studying at the moment, but it used to depend. Net+ - Didn't studied since I had just got out of 2 months of equivalent training for the military . Sec+ - A few hours over a week, about 2 hours the night before. CEH - an hour at work each day, about 90 minutes when I got home. CCNA - about 3 hours at work and about 2… -
Re: WHich cisco field is highest paying from salary point of view
As far as picking something you love the tough part is I have several! Now that may change as I move along my cert path.. I finish my masters in Information Assurance in April so the security track along with CISSP would seem to be the logical answer, but I am really drawn to the voice track! Really thinking I am going to… -
Re: A+ Network+ = MCSA ? Any one clear this up for me?
Sorry, I made a mistake above. Here's an easy way of looking at it for MCSA: Security. Both of these exams must be taken:--> 70-290, 70-291 Choose 1 client exam: ---> 70-270, 70-620, 70-680 Choose 2 from these electives: 70-350, 70-351, 70-299 Security+ 5 exams total.....Microsoft have added other electives such as CISSP,… -
Re: What are the highest paying non-managment jobs? What certs would help get them?
Thanks... This is useful. I am working on my CISSP as we speak. I will look into the GFCA and the CIPP. I have not heard of the CIPP. I wouldn't mind management I had just kind of ruled it out because I don't have a degree and figured I might be frowned upon. Maybe I need to keep a more open mind. I've been looking at… -
Re: The "which cert should I get" but with a twist - how to prioritize for maximum pay?:)
I don't see much value in product certifications at this point. I mean, the standard MS, Linux, and Cisco certs still apply, but I think you'll do better focusing on security, PM, or business/management/process areas. CAPM and ITL would both make sense, as would the CISSP specialization, some of the GIAC certs, or maybe… -
Re: Experience vs Salary : What would you choose?
The oversea's position will be contracted with the Army, but again… doing remedial help desk drone type stuff. Not even accessing a server, they would have Tier 2 do that.. lol.. So I wouldn't really be moving up, but from the staff there that I make contacts with, they use that time to pursue certs, or re-learn stuff. A… -
Re: Pros and Cons of moving from Blue Team(CSOC) to Pentesting
I'm going to be doing the same thing. I have 5+ years with information security and compliance, and have just landed a new job as a consultant mainly dealing with compliance. I have noticed a gap of people in the red team (actually, there are none in this company that I can find). To expand my skill-set, I'm going to focus…
