Re: Penetration Tester - Am I on the right track?
Lots of people get in to from lots of areas. The organizations I know of require CISSP, GPEN, and an in-house lab test (OSCP comes in handy) to get started, then require you to get a MCTS and Linux cert while working for them. Honestly OSCP starts you from the beginning and walks you through it all. If you've used Kali in… -
Re: PRINCE 2 Foundation exam via EXIN
Comment by N2IT · · Home› Certification Preparation› Other Certifications› Project Management CertificationsZ - I like our conversations they are a lot of fun. SSCP sounds like a nice one, especially in the line of work you do. Obviously finishing your SQL is very important and I think the security certification would serve you well especially in the future. Don't forget about the CISSP as well. That can look very good for… -
Re: new SANS Course: SEC561: Hands-On Security Practitioner with NetWars
I am leaning towards the GCIH. Per your signature Seph, you are currently studying towards the GCIH. Did you take the On-Demand, Live, or Self-study route? On a side note, how did you find the C|EH exam? I'm going for the v7 since there arent any v8 materials out yet and I am taking a CISSP class in September that my… -
Re: Quitting my job to study for MCSA and MCSE (MS "BI-Stack")
Certs are only a complement to experience. At the begining of your career, it serve to give future employer some trust in your resume and it let them know that you can learn something. Later in your career, it mostly confirm what you know, what you need to know for your next step and that after x years in the domain you… -
Re: Career Advice Needed.....Por Favor...all opinions welcomed..
Well, your situation looks like mine... I work as a IT consultant but I have a degree in BA. So... what to do? Started with CompTIA.... now MS... Then Cisco... Then CISM CISA then CISSP... Then CWNP... LPI... And everything I can. Why? Because I want, I can and finally... I don't want any stupid CIO thinking that I know… -
Re: Are certifications still taken seriously these days?
It depends on the certificate and the employer. Be smart, if you're working with a partner (Cisco partner, MS partner, Sun partner, IBM partner..etc), then your certifications are important for their partnership. Also, any certification with LAB is respected, and the certifications that you can't **** are also respected… -
Re: Sybex CEH Study Guide
I'm halfway through the sybex book and it feels more like an introduction than and all in one resource. Of course, after studying for the cissp with the AIO book I guess anything less than 1100 pages will feel a little light and underwhelming. I'm also reading through the Build your own security lab book by michael gregg… -
Re: CISM vs GSEC
Based on everything you've said, I would not do the GSEC. Do the CISM and as for SANS course and GIAC certs, instead of the GSEC I would go for AUD507/GSNA, AUD566/GCCC, or MGT512/GSLC. Your desired career path mirrors my own so I'll list what I have and what I am planning on pursuing with regards to security management:… -
Re: Looking to take Security+ soon....
Really and truly, IMO, you should try to read every book you can, because those security topics are very vast. My exam is coming up soon, and I'm trying to get in as much as I can. I'm using (Sybex, Exam Cram, Prep Logic, and Syngress). It would've been better if COMPTia designated ONE book AND only one book for these… -
Re: Getting into Information Security?
It sounds like the CEH is the next logical step after the Security+ for what you want to do. Sun, RedHat, and the 2003 MCSE have security specializations. You may want to start getting some experience with Cisco and/or other firewall/network appliance vendors. You should set your sights on the CISSP as your end goal, but…
