Re: Minor vs. Certifications
Qualify that with what type and level of certification(s). You could probably study really hard and get through any number of certifications that could hurt your job search as well. Mid and later career certifications like the PMP or CISSP with no experience are dead giveaways. CompTIA certifications would be appropriate… -
Re: GCIA Intrusion Analyst
I think its outdated because searching for books I found out the Network Intrusion Detection book that was written in 2004 and also the books related to snort/tcpdump filters and wireshark filters are kinda old. By the way, do you think that this is what is needed? Applying rules to wireshark/snort/tcpdump ? I havent… -
Re: Cert Question
Thanks for the info. Well, I already have MCSE but it needs to be upgraded. I would really would like to get more grounded in networking, but I also feel somewhat of a personal obligation to stay up to date with the latest and greatest from MS. However, I am in a position where I get involved with aspects of both. It just… -
Re: Taking Security+ this weekend...
Security+ is a good solid fundamental course to start with. If you're going to focus on security & you're leaning CISCO, I would focus on network security. Security is multifaceted. Consider this path; CCENT - CCNA - CCNA Security- Wireshark, then maybe Juniper and Palo Alto, then on to CCNP & some SANS courses and the… -
Re: Degree vs. Certifications
Depends what you're looking for. When I first started out, I only had a CCNA. I was able to find some decent jobs doing field work (which at the time I loved doing0. Over the years I got my CISSP, CCNP, CCNA Security and a bunch of HP certifications in networking. I have no problem finding jobs that pay around six figures,… -
Re: Post Your Certification Book Collection
I don't have much of a physical book collection anymore. I believe I still have the Bryant CCNP series books, but that's about it. I tend to give books away after using them. For example, I don't have a CISSP, Microsoft, CEH, CCNA, or CompTIA book anymore, and I used to have these in physical format. I'm using electronic… -
Re: newbie - career change
My recommendation is not to plan your path too much. As you learn, you will discover more and more about IT and what interests you and the practical demands on the job. You are better off taking it one step at a time. When the time comes to move beyond the CCNA level, your next step will become clearer. Some possible next… -
Re: Certs and higher salaries
Agreed there is a vast amount of factors that would involve a good salary and certs. Candidate A, can have many certs with 1 year experience and will most likely receive a smaller salary. Candidate B, can have half the certs of candidate A, with 5 years experience, and have a very very nice salary. Certs and experience are… -
Re: How many certifications per period?
One at a time, but I've been doing one immediately after the other for years. 2013 - CCNA Security 2014 - CCNP Security (4 exams which I started in 2013) 2015 - GCIH, CISSP (started in 2014 and failed twice) 2016 - CEH 2017 - GCIA, CISM 2018 - CISA, PSM I, GPEN And I have had lots of training between all of this, but… -
Re: Time it takes to get CCSP?
Webmaster, Thanks for the reply. I currently work as a security engineer. I do have TICSA, S+, CISSP and GCIH as far as security certs go. I do a lot of system security with my current job and some traffic analysis. I would like to get the CCSP because I think it would make me more marketable. I'm currently looking to move…
