Re: What should I do?
I was in a similar position where I took 10 years off traveling and then starting a few businesses of my own only loosely related to technology so I can relate to your struggles. I initially didn't have any certs and found it very difficult to even get an interview much less a job. I was able to find a job with an MSP… -
Re: Failed Security+ Help!!!
Hi Ranjnas Keep at it, Security exams are in my opinion, are harder than the average tech exams. They require you to know the information. I mentor junior techs in my company and the one thing I see all the time is, they all want the big certs in the fastest time possible. Unfortunately, they will go off and get the ****… -
Re: Studied for CEH V8 @ WGU; Now I hear they put V9 Questions :/
I'm not sure what statement of mine is false. I am not sure how I am giving out misinformation. I'm just some internet joe blow discussing tech exams and I believe I have done so objectively. You seem to think I have ulterior motives like working/volunteering for EC Council, I do not. M$ and VMware are not ANSI certified… -
CISA exam - my experience and how I studied
I bought the ISACA CISA review manual in Feb. when I registered for the May/June window, and my co-worker loaned me his ISACA Question/Answer printed book. I didn't opt for the QAE online database of questions since I had his hard copy already. That book was a long, hard, slog. I'd only gotten 2/3rd of the way through the… -
GCIA and GCIH completed
Hi All, Haven’t posted for a while so thought to give some feedback on my GIAC exam attempts. GCIH: I used the Sans study guides, Audio recordings and tools on the USB drive. I went through the materials once where found some overlaps from my CISSP and CISA certifications. Completed all the labs and one practise exam where… -
Re: new to USA
I arrived in the US from Russia when I was 38. It was 3 and a half years ago. In Russia was a manager/architect. I didn't even look for management jobs as I knew it will be pointless. If this guy did that I'd say he slightly deluded himself thus his disappointment. I had MCSA:Security at the time for old windows server… -
Re: Odd result of recent Interview
Thanks for the replies. Interesting posts. I kind of had the same feeling, but a lot of companies in the states are simply asking for too much in my opinion. We all know the story. When the industry was hot and the bubble was bloated anyone and his grandmas boyfriends sister could get a job in IT even with a friggen Art… -
Re: What kind of entry level job can I get with security + certified?
itshould be an easier transition.. granted they let you touch some things.. if your unlocking accounts and stuff.. comfy with active directory.. go aheead and get your mcp... push to do some exchange administration. Clearing out server logs... connecting computers to the domain.. unlocking/creating pc accounts. etc.. from… -
Re: Certifications?
Well, probably the first thing you need to realize is that there's no standard or typical way to start a career Information Security. The field itself is so diversified that it requires people from all sorts of backgrounds to make it work. Knowing the stories of how hundreds of InfoSec professionals got their start will… -
Re: High Schooler Wants t get started with Security
Sounds like you've got a good plan going, for what you're interested in. First thing's first, I'd recommend you start with getting some "regular" IT experience, like learning about Windows, Linux/Unix, and Cisco products. The first step to learning how to secure a system is learning how it works. I'd say you might want to…
