Re: Pen testing and python discussion!
This is security for ya! Not only is this a lifetime of choosing what to learn and not learn, but if you ask 20 security folks any sort of question, you're going to: * get 24 answers * 8 of which are patently wrong * only 4 people in that group knows which ones are wrong * 9 of those people aren't really in security, but… -

Re: about vmware infrastructure3
The course itself will not be enough to get you passed the exam, the one I attended was good not but enough (it was only good because we had the trainers top vmware expert sat at the back correcting the trainers mistakes). The Mastering Virtual Infrasture Scott Lowe is the accepted study method (same as the Mike Meyers… -
Re: Career re-entry advice - networking
Since you want to specialize in Networking then I suggest you go straight to the CCNA. You could read up on Network+ or watch videos for free at Professor Messer, CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, Linux, Microsoft Certification Training. Then apply for SA/NA jobs. You already have previous IT experience and previous IT… -
Re: Network+ exam voucher
I looked at the CompTIA website before taking my Net+ and I remember seeing something about their new pricing schedules. Apparently, they've removed the group purchasing discounts that always led to large buyers selling off their remaining tickets at really low prices for vouchers that were about to expire. The lowest… -
Re: what?
Be prepared to be one of the many Cheeblie. I hear that a very large number of MCSE are going to get + Security when they upgrade. A local company with about 10/12 IT staff is sending them all to do Sec+ as part of their basic training - I think this has to do with various schools talking up the value of Comptia Sec+. Kind… -
Re: Am I doing the right thing going for the A+?
Easy is relative. A+ has the lowest passing score required. There are no prerequisites for the COMPTIA exam, except they recommend experience...but that is not a requirement, it is a recommendation because the exams are designed to highlight ones knowledge. Plenty of people collect certs without any hands-on knowledge. And… -
Re: Cisco Certification Path Decision
I'm glad you got a hit out of it, but a nation wide search on Dice brings up two results and Monster brought up seven for "CCNA Security." Not exactly in demand. And I don't think there is anything wrong with learning a bit of everything, but I don't see the point of racking up entry level certs. Get your CCNA and then… -
Re: ITIL Foundation - Passed. What Next, please help?
Comment by shortygirl · · Home› Certification Preparation› Other Certifications› ITIL CertificationsIf you're interested in project management, the PMI CAPM isn't too unattainable. In my area, PMI is more recognized that Prince. The Project+ wouldn't be too far either to show that you're interested but not yet experienced. The ITIL Foundations cert is a great base for Service Desk Analyst roles; if you're wanting to go… -
Re: How many late starters do we have on here?
I started at 35 after building high end gaming machines for years. A little more than a year after getting my first real IT job and I have my CompTIA trio and will have ITIL Foundations in a few weeks. I started a Masters program in systems engineering and now I feel like I'm on the right track. I don't think age matters…
