Re: GCUX & GCWN versus GSEC?
I can't comment on GCUX or GCWN as I've not taken those courses, but I agree with the assessment from others that the SANS 401 course and the related GSEC certification have far more depth and breadth than the CompTIA Security+. I don't list my Security+ here, but I did obtain it back in like 2003/2004-ish. The GSEC covers… -
Re: Can you get to heavy on one side?
Thanks for the replies. Some positions even for business analyst, project management, even operational management have said it was perferrable to have an MCSA or some other technicial certifications. This hasn't been as one off as you may think. That's why I brought this up. Currently I am working on my MBA and PMP. I… -
Re: Losing career -offshoring advice for certs
Since IT is a vast field, you need to decide what you want to specialize in. Only you can decide that. Check out Coursera and Udacity for some ideas. If software development is what you want to do, check out codeacademy.com and choose your language. If it's infrastructure, learn a confirmation management tool like… -
Re: Taking Security+ Tomorrow!
This is my generic "last-minute" advice: don't study the day before the exam. Your brain goes into overdrive exam-cram mode, and you end up second-guessing yourself about everything. At least, that's what happens to ME. The current Security+ exam IS difficult, but if you've covered all the material, you should be fine.… -
Re: Is the CISSP worth it at this point in my career?
If you already did the Sec+ I would consider the CASP . For the maintenance fees alone it's cheaper than the CISSP. With the Sec+ you need $50 a year for it, if you add the CASP it's still $50 a year for both. If you have the CISSP that's $85 extra a year . Or maybe you could try the new CompTIA Cybersecurity Analyst… -
Re: What Cyber security certification begin to study?
Hello, I am already CCNA. I will pay the exam for myself, so I discard studying a SANS and the OSCP certs. I am thinking to self study an isc2 cert or the Comptia CSA+. Any advices for the this self study in order to get the cert?. Like a told before, I do not what will be my position in cyber security world the next… -
Re: What job can you get with just a CCNA
Hey guys! I just passed CCNA Routing & Switching and CompTia A+ certifications. I graduated from college 11 years ago- Bachelor of Science in Information Technology. And i don't have any IT work experience. I have been searching for an entry level job or internship for the last 2 weeks. And I can't find any position… -
Re: Making a career change to IT
So... do you actually know what that means? How exactly did you reach this conclusion? I hope it was based on some PRACTICAL experience: Years of tinkering with computers? Fixing family members pc issues? Running some kind of hobby website? Writing code/apps, etc? Or, did you just see a commercial somewhere claiming "IT is… -
Re: The one week ILT course
One approach I find helpful is to write my own curriculum, so to speak. Start with the exam objectives (the pdf is available for free on CompTIA's website) and then find 2 or 3 study resources. Usually a combination of books, video series, and perhaps labs are good. Divide it all up and spread that all out into daily… -
Re: I've come to appreciate the Security+ exam
It is an excellent starting point into security. If you don't know the material on Sec+, you're not going to go far. It's a perfect foundation, but like any other career path in IT, you can't just stop there. You have to move forward. Like other entry level (A+, Net+) CompTIA exams, they aren't worth much after a few years…
