Re: in desperate need for advice
It probably wouldn't be bad to obtain either CompTIA certs as well (A+, Net+, Security+). Yes, you should upgrade in my opinion, since your credential is very aged. You could also try and get MCSA for Win7? I also agree that you should actually find out what you want to do long term and move towards that, find out what the… -
Re: and so I begin...
Good luck on your studies, I just recently picked up Amazon.com: CompTIA Network+ Study Guide: Exam N10-004 (9780470427477): Todd Lammle: Books: Reviews, Prices & more It is offered as a class at my college too, but I felt like 16 weeks for this would be overkill (I already know most of the exam objectives pretty well,… -
Re: Newbie asking for abit of career advice
What is so baffling about that? I started working at Comcast, did it for five months. The Tier 1 help desk position I interviewed for after that liked that I knew how to speak to end users on the phone. I worked my ass off on that contract for 10 months and got promoted to Tier 2. Six months later, I filled out 63… -
Re: A+ 2003 VS. A+ 2006
matradley covered it! Good work :) The current objectives are for 601 plus 602-3-or4 as stated. A+ certified = A+ Certified the objective set is limited relevance (discussion for another time). What is important is that the 2006 Objectives is what you need to prepare for because that is what your exams will quiz you on.… -
Re: Newbie! Some questions.
CompTIA IS THE DEVIL!!!!!! They over charge for entry level certs..... If you would like to get the MCSA\MCSE check out this topic which will give you the links to all info you need! http://www.techexams.net/forums/viewtopic.php?t=470 No one can tell you what courses you should take. What do you want to do? Pick a goal and… -
Re: Certification or Masters Degree?
If I was in your shoes, I would definitely study for the CompTIA A+, Net+, and Sec+ (in that order) while I'm still in school. This can only be a successful process if you stay consistent with your study plan. Your school might even have a program that allows you to receive testing vouchers for free or a discounted price.… -
Re: How to read and take notes
@rampage, The best way to prepare is to have some experience. Having experience handling the hardware or software involved in your particular area of study will help solidify the information you known and the information you newly learn. Otherwise, for CompTIA information, base your study off the objectives. If you can… -
Re: All about Motivation for certs!!
I've been there. I was in the Navy for four years as a weapons tech. (bomb builder for aircraft). During that time I knew I didn't want to stay in the Navy but didn't know what I wanted to do once I left. I always had an interest with computers so once I got out I spoke with a college and enrolled in an AAS degree in… -
Re: *TechLabs* CCNA
First let me apologize for the lack of new TechLabs (and other CCNA material...) lately. The Cisco sections and forums are actually more popular than our CompTIA and Microsoft section, so it deserves some new content. Starting with three new TechLabs. Here's the first one: Switch Configuration Basics… -
Re: I PASSED!!!!!!!!!YIPPEE!!!!!!!!!
Per the agreement with Comptia, it's difficult to give specific advice, without risk of violating the certification. What I can suggest, is that you have a broad general knowledge of all topics. Review the test objectives. Also, I studied from the tech notes on this website, they were very helpful. I also took every…
