The reason most of these questions do not get many answers is simply that your question is very broad. IT Security covers 'ALL' domains, and you can land in several fields of IT that encompass Security. That means we all will have our funneled idea of what IT Security means. If you double up on Scripting/Programming and Security I think you would be in a very good spot. Security professionals that are good with code/scripting seem to be hard to come by, and IMO programmers with very good security knowledge (and can audit/review code or build secure code) are worth their weight in gold. -

I don't work in security but most people will probably agree that some programming knowledge is essential in all of those areas. One big glaring hole that would be there if security people didn't know how to code is that if programmers leave a vulnerability in their code then someone needs to find it and tell them it needs… -
