Re: will be taking both 801 and 802 in about a week and a half
Techie19 is right....it's hard to focus on just one area. There is nothing that is more emphasised then the other. I know that it means spending more money, but CertMaster really helped me in the final days prior to testing. My analogy would be that CertMaster is the honing of a blade not the actual sharpening. Basically… -
Re: I am scared I won't get a job. MIS Degree.
An MIS degree is better than no degree, and I know plenty of people (myself included) who are in the industry and varying levels without college as even a thought in their mind. Some of it is luck, but the majority of it is drive and determination. Start with some basic certifications dependent on your desired path. If… -
Re: I have tried so hard but feel like i am failing
I was in the same boat. Actually I dont have any certifications except a DoD cert. I have been getting interviews lately and no luck. Last friday I just got hired as a PC Technician (without a major certification from Cisco or Comptia). I am thankful for this opportunity as I have been trying to get a job in IT and get the… -
Re: Should I switch from Cisco ICND1 to study for Network+?
Allow me to share my experiences with you. I've been a Desktop Technician for the past 7yrs and handle mostly software/hardware issues with the occasional basic network troubleshooting. Having only a general understanding of networking, I wanted to change that and I was faced with a decision to go with Net+ or CCENT.… -
Re: 2 years of studying/ educations and cert grinding cannot find any jobs
You mentioned 2 years of studying and education. But, it doesn't look like you have any completed education. Taking classes with no degree = Intern A+, Network+, and CCNA are all entry-level certifications to most humans within IT for a few years. The CompTIA CIOS Certification is something recent that CompTIA has… -
Re: Masters Degree for either Information Security or Software Engineering.
First of all, it might be a better idea to get into IT first, before jumping into a Masters program. There are a few things that people suggest here, so I will give you the quick run down. You can start out by getting the CompTIA trio: A+, Network+, and Security+. Those will give you one of the broadest, non-OS/vendor… -
Re: Taking Hardware Monday
Take as many of the free practice exams as you can find on the Internet today. Review the CompTIA website for how the test is weighted is different areas. It will show you the % of each area they will test you on. Based on a max of 30 questions, you can do some simple division to figure out what area you might be getting… -
Re: CCNA Composite on Wednesday
For the composite, be prepared for the ride of your life! I have taken it twice (both attempts for really cheap) and it is not that easy. Doing the 2 exam path is preferred but it is different based on experience. You can get questions pulled from both ICND1 or 2 so be prepared. Time management is key to the exam. When it… -
Re: New guy from the D with some questions...need help
I didn't look at the most recent data from CompTIA, but the last major change was that some programs (including A+ I think) had to have continuing education credits to stay current, in the past CompTIA certs were lifetime, and that made me feel good for an exam that was almost $300 dollars. Now, the only two that seem… -
Re: Thinking about another degree and certs. Help me weigh the pros and cons of WGU plz?
Updating both my threads: So I just got a few replies from directors and chairs of a few IT/Computer Systems departments I applied to. The consensus was that a Masters program wouldn't be good for someone like me, who has no prior IT education or certifications, despite my experience and knowledge dealing with computers…
