Re: Whew, I just realized I spent a cool grand $$$$
Balance is the key that's for sure. My budget keeps shrinking year after year. My first year started in 2009 and that's when I did the Microsoft Office 2007 exams. I was in help desk at the time and my boss and his boss said they would explorer the opportunity of transitioning into the office and visio specialist in the… -
Re: College Degree: I realize I have made a mistake...
... No, it's not, you just need to apply it. IT isn't a bunch of drudgeons in the basement of an office building. It is not ideal early in your career, but it is a long ways from useless. Many IT personnel seem to lack even the most basic understanding of business and how their job impacts the organizational mission. This… -
Re: for those that took the cissp recentlywhat info. did you study for the "new" domains?
I think that perhaps the challenge is that anyone that took the previous exam will not be familiar with the newer materials and similarly anyone taking the new materials will not have any context on the old stuff. When the updated domains were published, I did review the Candidate Information Bulletins - you can find it… -
Re: ITIL Expert - Passed
Hi John, Welcome to the board. You will find that this board is primarily focused on technical certifications, and there is very little ITSM or PMP traffic here. Personally, I like that because reading this forum keeps me grounded in the actual technology. Regarding your questions: 1) Only one person can answer this… -
Re: Just finished CISA exam
1. That email regarding purchasing the question database upgrade simply went to everyone who purchased the 2011 questions CD. There's no way their systems are that integrated that it was targeted to people who did not pass. I had the same feeling, but we're being paranoid. 2. Regarding mid-February, they're probably just… -
Re: Certifications aren't needed for everything
I agree with this completely I'm am hungry to learn, but right now I have some uncertainties which may or may not come to fruition. Things that I could learn right now that would help me directly with my job. 1. Excel 2. Project 3. Process Improvement/CSI 4. Operational Management 5. Positive thinking and confidence… -
Re: Lack of Focus/Motivation
Are you working on MCSE 2003 or MCITP SA/EA? If you are working on 2003, I imagine that you have enough experience to just knock out the four exams that you would need to upgrade. Plus they have a TON of overlap... so you could just do a general cram and then go take them. Then, it is just an upgrade from there to MCITP… -
Re: Question: To those with loads of certs in their profile...
Well, to be honest, I don't even list all of my certs, as they are a bit redundant. CISSP, coupled with newer Microsoft, RHEL, or CISCO certs is a great way to go if you are wanting to stay technically savvy, while PMP, ITIL, CISM will put you down the road to Management with a technical focus. As a person who manages off… -
Re: References?
First off, welcome to the site. I am sure your time here will be well spent. To be honest, I find it a bit strange that the company does not provide references. I mean a prospective employer is probably going to need some references, you know to make sure you are not bluffing your way through the interview and that have… -
Re: At a Crossroads... Seeking advice
For starters, thank you for your service to our country. I think you're doing very well as is, and you're headed in the right track. Many times I've interviewed people getting out of the military who were simply unprepared, and weren't keeping up with what's going on in the industry. Sometimes the job you do in the…
