Re: Heard of the IEEE Computer Society Recourses?
I used it for the CISM when I took it but it was more as a gap filler than true study material for me. By the time I got around to using it I had already absorbed the official study guide and taken countless practice exams. While there is a TON of material on there, I found that the material I looked at seemed to be pretty… -
Re: So I'm in my grad class and...
One of the best ways to stay relevant is having a goal of at lest trying to obtain one certification a year. It's really not much time when you break it out in 12 months. This year my goal is to obtain the CISM and then next year, either get the CISA or the CISSP. We will see. Another thing you can do is trying to at least… -
Re: CCISO
@odomscd, My apology, I did not mean to harm your feelings. It's just that I'm not a big fan of Ec-Council. Given the situation you are in, I would say go for it. Once you are done; go for CISM or CISSP. @UnixGuy, Same here!! I wish the same. I used to work for one of this tech giant for five years ( those days are long… -
Re: IT Security Career: Technical Vs Governance/Policy
Excellent input guys! Just so we can make it practical for me and everyone else who might read this thread, what practical steps should I take? Get another degree? But we know that academia can be detached from reality. Stay in SOC? Move away from SOC? Cert up? What certs? More policy oriented certs (CISM/CISA/CISSP) or… -
Re: After the CISSP?
It depends what you want to do. Your career path dictates the next step. The CISSP is just a stepping stone - it's the checkbox that everyone seems to have for security personnel. What are you trying to end up doing, or what are you already doing? Like a certain technology? Get tech-specific certs. Like hacking? CEH… -
Re: Is there such thing as too many certificates?
I bet a lot of people have similar stories. We had an IT Auditor with a CPA (never worked as a CPA), a CISSP, a CISM, a CISA, and various other certifications to go along with his advanced Finance degree. He obviously didn't have real experience backing up his certs. I didn't participate in that interview, but it is not… -
Re: Retired Comptia Certifications
You are automatically enrolled in CE when you pass a CE exam. So if you took A+ today you are A+ ce. Network+ renews A+ and Security+ would renew A+ and Network+ for three years. It doesn't make much sense to take Security+ in three years to renew because you are not advancing your knowledge. Security+ is an entry level… -
Re: What cert should i do next?
There's really just two main reasons to do certs: To get paid more and to learn more. To get paid more, CISSP is probably the way to go. And I don't necessarily just mean it will pay you more, but if you're out looking for a job, it should get you a job and get money in your pocket faster than without. In other words, it's… -
Re: CISSP CAT Attempt 1**MASSIVE FAIL**
When I took the test a couple of weeks ago, the one thing I noticed was how the questions were asked. So, it wasn't so much that I did not have the knowledge and more like I did not know how to interpret the question. I did feel a good portion of my passing was from personal experience. In the end though, it was knowing… -
Re: question on path to security
Security is very broad and networking is a sliver of infosec. It depends on what aspects of security you are interested in. The base certification is CISSP. Pretty much all my peers hold that cert. Infosec managers will also hold a CISM or CIPP. Risk folks will hold CRISC. IT auditors, testers, and managers hold CISA.…
