Re: Passed GPEN Yesterday!
Thanks all! Felt pretty good, but then I got confirmation that I kind of screwed myself... Took the test early, which ended the graduate "class" early, which resulted in an amendment in my GI Bill claim. It means I save some time on my GI Bill, but also shorted myself out of around ~$3,000 housing allowance I think. Not… -
Re: Advice for security certifications
I live in the Netherlands, the state where I currently live is Utrecht. At the moment I don't have a job so I have a lot of free time but I want to get a job ASAP. Actually it doesn't matter if its IT related or not what do you think about it? And I am willing to spend money on cert.'s. Yes I have IT experience on helpdesk… -
Re: MGT514: Security Strategic Planning, Policy, and Leadership
Hi cyberguypr, Thank you for your quick reply. As a DPM and delivery Lead I do work with Infosec team regularly; which I do enjoy a lot. I just happened to come across to an opportunity with a relatively small company where they need someone who could help them with overall security planning and policy. This is a all… -
Re: SSCP difficulty for CCNA: Security and Security+ certified?
Have been applying for ICT roles with all three levels of government (federal, state, council) for the better part of a decade now, with no luck whatsoever. It seems like all the people here with full citizenship status end up in government IT jobs, because they certainly aren't working in the private sector anymore… -
Re: Want to get into InfoSec, Looking for advice...
There are several niches in InfoSec, so before you head down a cert path, it might be worth it to determine what sort of work you're really interested in and then pursue that cert... To start, there's - audit/compliance (ISACA's CISA is a good cert here) - DFIR (several certs available, the SANS offerings being among the… -
Re: Best way to get InfoSec news
depends on what kind of news you're looking for. general news, you can do twit security now, krebs, sophos naked security, schneier, all the SANS newsletter, etc. technical news (and the only thing i use twitter for) i follow technical people - all the SANS twitter accounts (mostly just marketing, some rare good stuff),… -
Re: Almost That Time For a Career Switch
I can understand a person's opinion on why not to put things on there, I just happen to disagree. As with most things, it's a preference. Unfortunately, it's the preference of the interviewer that we're often times unaware of that will make the difference. If one were to follow the rule of logic that nothing absolutely… -
Re: CASP Lab
If I were to try to build a lab that emulated a good portion of what CASP might cover, it'd have lots of stuff. Probably get a Cisco ASA or at least an ISR with security features (about $100), a server with E5500 or better CPUs and 32GB+ of RAM. A half decent network switch and router. And a bunch of VMs - probably 3… -
Re: So you want to take the CEH ... (read on)
This thread is awesome... Me Personally I have a goal to complete my RHCSA then go for either a Networking or Security cert. I have noticed one thing about ANYONE who works in Security and posts here.... you HAVE to know NETWORKING and basic computer concepts!!!!! That is the main theme that I see in many threads when we… -
Re: How to proceed?
Get your Net+, consider Server+, A+, Linux+. Study a programming language and/or scripting. Good IT Security pros were good IT pros first. CEH is a good next step after Sec+. You mentioned it doesn't have an experience requirement, but that's only partly true...you need 2 years experience UNLESS you take a CEH course at…
