Re: What was the last certification exam you took? How did you prepare?
Which resources I use for study depends on the certification. Since 2013 I have achieved credentials from (ISC)2, ISACA, GIAC, ITIL, Scrum, Microsoft, and Cisco. Here were my approaches: GIAC (GDSA, GCCC, GPEN, GCIH, GCIA) - Take week long SANS training which comes with books and labs. I go through all of the material and… -
Re: Requiring re-certification: right or wrong?
I think ethical would be a better choice of wording than moral. Regardless, I understand what you're saying. However, I don't have a problem with it. Technology changes at a fairly rapid pace, so I don't think the requirement for recertification every few years is really unfounded. Many of the recertification requirements… -
Re: ONT test Wednesday (passed!!!)
I used the knowledgenet student guide and the Cisco press exam cert guide for my study materials and both do have configuration guides. They both walk you step-by-step thru the various configurations. I just prefer being able to jump on a device and be able to either enter the commands myself or walk thru the steps in… -
Re: Venting!
You know what the best part of your job is? That you have it. There are so many unemployed skilled and experienced techs that dont have a job because the global economy sucks, though it's getting better. Give that a thought and it might make you feel better. I was the exact same way you are now. I had a Master in Telecomm… -

Re: March to the CCNA
This is good to hear because I am thinking of getting that as my next… -
Re: sans salary survey http://www.sans.org/salary2005/
I have a few issues with this survey as I do many I've seen published by SANS. They don't say how it was conducted, what the sampling population was or whether or not it was it a very small group of people who happen to be SANS certified people or was it really a selection at large. SANS likes to tout that the CISSP, CISM,… -
Re: Will I get a job with CEH? no expierence?
Again keep in mind of your goal. A CISSP/MBA/CISM at my last job (lead migration technician) told me don't waste time going 100 million miles in 100 billion directions. Take a look at these two different jobs. One is a penetration tester. The other is clearly a network engineer. Penetration Tester jobs - Dice.com (PEN…
