Re: CISM / Isaca advice
If you meet the qualifications, I'd recommend CISA, CISM, CRISC. Not a lot of "management" level certs, and those seem to be the ones listed the most when the positions pop up in my area. Each will give you some good knowledge in various areas with an escalating level of detail & difficulty if you go the order I provided.… -
Re: Next Certification Crossroads
Out of that list you provided if you're looking to focus on management I'd suggest OSCP > CISA > CISM. OSCP to really drive home the security need and knowledge when your future network/server team challenges you on "that isn't possible" or "that's too much work for little benefit" CISA to give you the broad knowledge of… -
Re: How long did you study for ISACA Cert?
CISA - 8 hours CISM - 24 hours CGEIT - 16 hours CRISC - 16 hours For the CISA, I took a Friday for PTO and studied all day, then took the test on Saturday. Passed by one question. I had just finished doing 160 hours for the CISSP, so I was on the ball back then. Note - this is not recommended for normal people. Normal… -

Disability and Federal Jobs/contracting
Hello I am nearing retirement in my current job. I have been in IT for 30 years, mainly as a programmer with some management and PM work. I have cerebral palsy. Currently, I process a CSSLP, CRISC, and CIPT. I have heard that the Feds are good about hiring the handicapped. And, I am hoping that would carry over to… -

Re: Reputation of a Few Certifications
Hello and welcome to TE. GCWN are the GIAC complementary certification to SANS training. Both GIAC and SANS are well known and well repected. I tend to prefer self-study so I prefer the SANS online formats but their conferences are quite popular. I personally feel that their training is too expensive and I will not likely… -
Re: Any risk managers here?
3+ months into the role and so far so good. Lots of meetings which are not all interesting and I even provided feedback that some of the work is boring. I have an IT background so I am fine when discussing information risk, but my department is also responsible for operational risk and some of the discussions just flat out…
