Re: what's security certs logical path/order?
I'd look at doing Security+ first then GSEC as GSEC is legitimately used as training for Security+ and overlap heavily. Both make good entry level points to security work and you can use the GSEC as continuing education for COMP/TIA, I think. I'm under the old program so those certs never expire. As far some of the other… -
Re: Certs most likely to land you a new job
Yes, indeed, but you need a real MS cert. MCP is achieved by passing any of a huge variety of MS tests. However, the MCP certification itself is A. deprecated and B. doesn't signify any specific skill. It certainly won't help you get from point A. to point B. in IT. To get somewhere with MS certifications in IT… -
Re: 2015 Salary Report
I definitely think Cyber is the way to go salarywise. Also, much more interesting to me than Sysadmin. But wondering, to get from where I'm at now ($80's), to double in 4 - 5 years...does anyone have insight on this? I have around 15 years experience already, and now headed into a Cyber role. This year should have me with… -
Re: CISA: June, 2014
If you already know someone that used it and passed... that is all the validation you need. I do not believe anyone on this forum will openly admit to using Pass-4-sure. If my experience of similar certifications serves me right... You will fail woefully, if you aim to pass the exam using ****. There is a reason the exam… -
Re: Failed - Security + - Need Help
Harry, there are lots of practice tests out there. I dont think it's a big deal to take practice tests to learn concepts. What I did was found all I could and used a word processor to blank out the answers then took the tests straight up, went back and graded my answers. The ones I missed I reviewd study material from… -
Re: Passed Today - Here is my perspective (you should read)
I think it's a different experience for everyone. My test center allowed me to take as many breaks as I wanted but I had to empty all my pockets and all belongings were placed in a locker prior to taking the exam. I've taken two exams by ISACA and felt they were a lot easier and far more inferior to the CISSP. I mean, I… -
Re: Net+ scheduled...suggestions on where to go next?
Thanks for the great response. I am definitely interested in it enough. I have a BS in MIS from Rochester Institute of Technology and am planning on eventually starting my own information security firm. As far as having access to the Cisco equipment, I don't have much in my current position, but being certified in ANYTHING… -
Re: How to become a technical IT security
Step 1) Get a test lab, Virtual Box. Follow the book advanced penetration - the ultimate security guide in setting up a decent test lab (every exact steps give). 1 Firewall, 1 Load Balancer, 2 Knoppix vulnerable machine, 1 Backtrack Kail. Also put up a webgoat. Grab a Centos if you are into hardening and a windows SP 2… -
Re: Sat the VCAP5-DCA on Tuesday at VMworld
I received the certificate, sticker and welcome letter today. Nothing to be excited about, it looks like my last two vmware certificates. It is a little depressing really. Hard work, time investment, and cost involved and you get a certificate on thicker paper printed on a laser printer, form filled letter, and a sticker… -
Re: Help on IT route to take? Calling all IT pros!
True. I am thinking that your path will be my path (yoink!!) because it seems going from Network Tech>Engineer> Security Engineer is possible, by the time you get to Network Security Engineer you need to know some sys admin things and it seems that it would be very possible to get "stuck" in Network Engineering and never…
