Are there certification programs for Nessus? If so is it a marketable certification or would it be a waste of time?

    A very niche vendor certification.

I've never seen this requested on any job posting. It's similar to a Qualys or Sourcefire certification. Nice to have, the course is probably informative, but I wouldn't consider them marketable on a resume.

Agree w/ Docrice - however, Qualys certification is free, and while it may not be a requirement, it could be useful to show that you have knowledge/(possible) experience/exposure to their technology, and that specific category of tech. I haven't gone through it, but it certainly wouldn't hurt for the bargain price of free.

I definitely wouldn't pay for it. You can get it for free if you are a licensed vendor/partner. Or if your boss decides to pay for it.

I've had to do my fair share of vendor certs (SourceFire, FireEye, StoneSoft, etc...) and Tenable looks like it may be next in line. They all suck man. For a lot of vendor certs, sometimes as much as a third of the exam is sales stuff like competitive differentiation and market superiority.

That would suck if I had to answer sales questions for the cert...my job is paying for it so that at least is good. Thanks for the responses though

Do a review! I was interested in getting my work on the hook for the Nessus cert, but I got other stuff to tackle first. Have fun.

My co-worker just took the Nessus training and passed the cert. Like it was stated above, very 'niche' - it isn't a bad thing but I don't believe HR or recruiters are going out there looking / filtered for 'nessus certifed' individuals.

Thanks for the info, I will take the certification since my boss is paying for it and do a review.
