Certs question

I was reading a thread somewhere and people mentioned that you should gain experience and then pursue the certs. Because some people get the cert but have no experience and don't get the job. My question is where do you go to get experience for networking, hardware etc.

It's a catch 22. You need expriance to get a job and a job to get experiance...
See if you can get an internship or a low level tech job and build up some expriance from there. If you have a desire to work with Linux you can play with that on your home computer. A cert can help you get you an entry level job.
