Hey guys I recently finished the vsphere 5.5 install, Manage, configure course and while the information is still fresh in my head I want to write my VCP5-DCV. I am currently reading mastering vshpere 5.5 which by the way is an excellent book and I just scored a pretty decent lab at work I can use. So with this do you think it is a good idea to write the exam at the end of june ?

Nope. Unfortunately the IMC course DOES NOT prepare you for the VCP exam. I used a myriad of sources along with labs and many years experience, only to squeak by on the exam.

Your lab and how well you can follow the VCP blueprint will determine how you do on the exam. Passing the ICM course is only the bare minimum requirement to take the test. How much experience do you have?

I plan on testing on June 28th, maybe push it out if I really slack ass on read / labbing over the next month, but I feel like I am retaining all the material pretty well from reading and labbing as much as I have thus far. I have never taken a VMware course, almost no experience working with VMware, but I am pretty confident with labbing and reading I can squeak by.

I'm not dead set on that date, but it would be really, reeeeally nice to take a breather on studying over the summer before getting back into Cisco study mode.

End of June is plenty of time. I took the test one week after the class.

All depends on how much experience you have though ..

I was surprised at the difficulty of the VCP5-DCV test (5.1). After taking the class which I thought was a joke I was thinking the test would have been somewhat easy as the class is $3,000+ so my little brain told me with a class that expensive it has to cover most of what is on the test - Wrong! That dang test was pretty hard. I've been working with ESX 4.0 then 4.1, and then ESXi 5.0 for about the last 4-5 years and there were some questions even after studying I was scratching my head and really racking my brain.

I actually just pushed my test date back til the end of July today, there is just too much happening in the next 2-3 weeks that there is no way I can study enough to make the end of June deadline, and I hate rescheduling exams as it feels almost like a miniature defeat of sorts.

However I can feel myself stressing studying, and that just makes the whole experience of learning suck, so had to push that sucker out until I have time to dive back into it with some enjoyment.

Sure, that goes with just about every exam, but you can pass the exam by understanding the concepts in the Mastering VMware vSphere book by Scott Lowe combined with labing (VMware - NEE) and practice exams (both free - http://blog.mwpreston.net/ and paid - VCP5-Data Center Virtualization (VCP5-DCV)) and you'll be fine.
