2 sim on the 640-801

I just failed the CCNA with an 800 (first try). They threw in a second sim with 20 questions left. I had 45 minutes left and I started to watch the clock. I was down to 28 minutes and I hit next with out finishing the sim. What's with the 2nd sim? I thought there was usually one? The ironic partis I finished the test with 12 minutes left. I could have worked on the sim longer. Everyone keeped saying they ran out of time and the Sybex book said watch the time. This stinks

You can get up to 4 sims, and I think multiple sims is more common than just a single sim. Never ever skip a sim or leaved it unanswered, they weight more than regular mc questions. Not bad score for a first try though, I'm sure you'll get it next time now that you have the experience with the exam and time pressure.

I had two sims and was relieved that that I didn't have more. But... NOW you know what the exam is like and what can happen. Time management can be the toughest part. Honestly, I don't think you can pass if you don't get the sim(s) right, though I have absolutley nothing to base that on.

You are well-armed for next time. Practice and study and get back after it. You are soooo close.

I have to correct you guys.....I know for a fact when I took my CCNA exam I took it with a friend of mine. He was working on the first sim and he got frustrated and skipped it. When the second sim came around (like 5 minutes before the time was over he skipped that one and answered all the questions with like 20 seconds left. He passed the test, barely passed but passed without answering the two sims. He must have gotten all the questions right but it is possible.

Also I have never heard of anyone having more than two sims. Well, I could be wrong. Just thought I can throw that out there.

Passed it on Friday with a 900. I got 2 sims again but this time I relaxed and finished both. Now I can finish the CCDP

    Good luck to everyone

My study material was Sybex V5, Ciscopress, and forums like this one.

I don't think anyone claimed that it is impossible to pass the exam without answering the sims, just that they shouldn't be skipped because they weight so heavily and therefore have a huge influence on whether you pass or fail. When the sims were introduced, we already guessed that it is possible to pass without answering the sims, but that would probably require you to answer pretty much every other questions correctly (which is an achievement by itself ;)).
Also I have never heard of anyone having more than two sims.
If I remember correctly, there are several older posts in this forum from people who got 3 or even 4 sims, but it seems that Cisco eventually decided 2 is enough for the CCNA.

We pick the question formats, the exam technologies that we use and so on specifically to achieve that purpose. If that purpose is achieved with one simulation, that’s great. If in another exam that purpose really requires three, four, five simulations or some other number, that’s just as fine from our perspective.

I passed my CCNA exam today. I got 2 sims but I could not finish one because it got crazy. In the sim, I had to use telnet from one router to another, I started Ok and after a couple of commands the telnet connection got crazy and gave me all sorts of things in the little screen, I tried a couple of times and gave up. The second one, I had no problem.
So, be carefull with the sims. Don't upset them :)
