I've never heard them mentioned in the field, however I am a "member" on LinkedIn. The biggest issue with these courses is the limited availability and in the case of that course in particular it sounds more managerial than anything else, but the follow-on courses require it.
If someone is on one of those teams mentioned in the course, they don't need to know how to build a SOC, they just need to know their job.
