2008 AD and GP practice labs?

A friend of mine wants to learn some 2008 server to upgrade his job. I know 2012 is newer, etc, they use 2008 r2 at his job and won't let him touch anything unless he can prove he can do some basic AD and group policy stuff. Does anyone know any decent labs online that he can practice with? He's got a VM box and has installed 2008 r2 eval edition, so just needs to be pointed to some material to learn.
