Computer Operator Interview

All,
I have an interview tonight for a computer operator position within my company (currently working as a bank teller). This will be my first IT job since leaving a help desk internship about six years ago. I just wanted some opinions on if this would be a good career move for someone looking to get into networking.

Position Summary:



Under the supervision of the Computer Operator Lead, a Computer
Operator 1 will be responsible for operating the mainframe computer, related
equipment to the mainframe, Xerox printers. The Computer Operator 1 will work in
cooperation with team members to accomplish timely and accurate posting of
transactions and completion of the nightly processing. A Computer Operator 1
should communicate a sincere desire to provide high-quality service, and have
good oral, written, and organizational skills.

Work schedule is Monday
thru Friday 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. Must be available to work any shift including 12
a.m. to 8 a.m. or 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. as necessary to cover vacation or sick time.
Must be available to work a weekend rotation to complete iSeries Production
System saves. Sunday rotation shift of 7a.m. - 9a.m.






Responsibilities and Duties:



Operating the mainframe computer and associated equipment.
Executing jobs according to the daily run schedule. Following run instructions
as provided, and informs the lead operator when a correction needs to be
made.
Operate the Xerox printer as required in changing forms, preventive
maintenance and verifying the output is correct.
Ensure that all
jobs/processes are executed successfully.
Execution/Verification of all file
transfers and all script files(i.e. iSeries transfers, Watchdog, ComputerShare,
FIS nightly files)
Responsible for contacting various vendors to ensure
nightly processing continues as normal and that the printer is functioning as
normal.
Create Problem tickets after normal business hours and assign to the
appropriate Information Technology group.
Work as part of the Information
Technology team which may require other tasks as assigned (i.e. tape rotation,
DR testing, write/modify documentation).
Troubleshoot issues that occur
during their shift and contact the Operations Supervisor when
necessary.
Maintain documentation for all three shifts and get approval from
Operations Supervisor before uploading them to SharePoint.
