Confused about Linuc certs

Greetings,

I want to attempt getting certified in Linux, but I'm confused as to which exam to take eventually. What is the difference b/w the CompTIA Linux+ and the LPIC series? Is one superior to the other? I know LPIC's site stated they had partnered with CompTIA but it seems like both are still mentioned separately.
