I had to switch a port to a different VLAN and when i switched the port to the VLAN the computer lost internet connectivity and didn't even attempt to connect. I had to run a ipconfig /relese and /renew in order for it to work. My question is why do i have to run the ipconfig /renew command? Shouldn't the network adapter automatically attempt to get an IP address?
P.S. we use windows server for our DHCP

Changing the Vlan doesn't bounce the interface so the client will not broadcast a DHCP request in that scenario. Shut and no shut the port would be a quicker way to force a DHCP request.
