Cross Training

Hi,
I am in a strange situation at the moment. I am currently doing web and software QA work at the University I am studying at that is not related to not what I want to be or do when I graduate. The work focuses on testing University products and running test automation. I was able to learn the QA side of IT and what it's like however, my intended goal is to work in the networking side of IT as I am pursuing my CCNA R&S at the moment.
So, is the cross training in this field a good or bad thing for me? The QA team is small with around 4 students, so we are constantly pressured to finish projects before deadlines and be able to multitask.
