Cisco 3550 24 port SMI switch won't ping PC

DeathmageDeathmage Banned Posts: 2,496
I'm offically perplexed here....

I connected the 3550 switch to a 5 port prosafe netgear switch and then connect my pc to the 5 port. I can ping the 3550 from my PC and can do a tracrt however I can't ping my PC.

I made the network the following (simple)

PC: 192.168.104.2 255.255.255.0
Switch 192.168.104.1 255.255.255.0 on vlan 1

Let me know if you guys see anything wrong with this config of the 3550. (note on my normal network the 3550 can ping my Sonicwall and L2 (stand-corrected) TP-link switch perfectly fine it just can't ping my PC that is also connected to the L2 TP-link)

Really not sure wtf is going on here, I tried a different Nic card and the same results....

The cable is a normal Cat5e UTP. The 5 port switch is a Netgear ProSafe GS105 and the connection is on port 2.

Any help would be appreciated; I think I'm overlooking something... icon_rolleyes.gif

I would try bypassing the netgear and patch the 3550 direct to the desktop.

You have the default gateway on the switch pointing back to the PC interface Vlan1
    ip address 192.168.104.1 255.255.255.0
    !
    ip default-gateway 192.168.104.2
    ip classless

Now it seems solarwind tftp doesn't work over ethernet. It's never ending with this switch.

With the firewall off UDP 69 should be open but for some reason the solar wind program is saying it can't connect to the PC. Anyone else ever have these problems with solar wind? - I'll see if I can get the exact error - it's like something is blocking it but nothing is blocking it on the PC.

I ordered a Amazon Prime next day air 10ft crossover cable to see if this will make my life easier; it'll be here tomorrow.

As of last night at 11 pm I started a xmodem connection and as of 7 am this morning it was at 32%.

Hate to break it to you, but I think it's the operator having trouble, not the switch!

I've never really used Solar Winds for TFTP, but a couple things to check would be make sure the service is running, the firewall really is off etc. Don't think it has anything to do with a cable....

I think it's operator error myself. That's what's putting me off as to what breaking it. Just going to go one step at a time until I figure it out.

    OK... go figure....

The EMI finished transfering via xmodem about 5 minutes after I got home at 7:30. I set the boot to the new flash and now for some bloody reason I can communicate via TFTP on my PC with the EMI loaded into flash. I changed nothing else...

    ... really perplexed now!

I've never experienced any TFTP problems before and I've upgraded all of my 80% of all my Cisco equipment.. at least it helps improve your troubleshooting skills.
