Advice on my College Curriculum & career choice.

In the fall I am going to start an associates degree at my community college titled Computer Network Engineering. My question is, in addition to my degree, what else should I study for on my own time? I also completed my Associate of Arts degree in the spring, this degree allows me to transfer to a university if I need to. After I complete my CNE degree at the cc I want to continue my education by getting another IT degree at a university to make me more competitive to employers. Does anyone think this is a good idea?
