Hi guys,
I want to install 2012r2 on a number of VMs, so would it be better to download the 180-day trial from Microsoft in VHD or ISO, and what's the difference between the two?

If you're new to this, I suggest getting the ISO and going through the install process a couple times. If you've installed Windows a few times before then you can go with the prebuilt VM. The installer isn't too much different than a Win 7 or Win 8 install except for having the options for sever core installs.
