A few years ago. Lasted less than an hour. I was going to spend my time reading manuals to help with printer support and after meeting the team i was going to work with and how frustrated they were at their jobs. I took the fastest exit out. No regrets at all. A week later i found support engineer job and lasted almost 5 years. It was and still is one of the best places i ever worked at. I'm still friends with my then boss.

That 5yr job sounds like my 5yr job .. Knew the director from before, still friends with him now and only reason I don't work there is because he sold the company and they closed the office ..

Similar story here except he left for a new position within another company. It is really the best place i ever worked. I've been chasing Amy since. icon_cry.gif

1 day on a help desk contract. I was young and it was a great job working for the deptmartment of corrections. The next day I came in and all of the helpdesk started getting pulled off the floor in two's. We were all let go the conract ended abruptly. There was no reason given. The bad part is I left a job that was perm and paid less. It was horrible for me to say the least.

Wow reading this thread makes me happy that I haven't experienced any of these terrible jobs. The shortest job I had was a help desk position that lasted around five months. I left because it was so incredibly repetitive and boring that I actually had an existential crisis. The pay was actually good for a helpdesk position and the people were great, I actually recently ran into my boss in the store and ended up having a beer with him.

Lol reading this thread has also given me a few job titles to avoid during my current job hunt. It's also given me a few more titles that I hadn't thought of searching for. Like Support engineer. Also, reading through this thread made me realize the difference between helpdesk and tech support for some reason. at least in my eyes.

Some of this may be true, however I still wouldn't necessarily rule out any job just because of its title. Just remember titles don't mean too much in this field and the 'pay to title' data you see isn't always true. What some companies call an 'Engineer' may actually be a technician and vice versa.

Yeah, but finding the right listings is the first part!
