Recertify VCP with VCAP

Hi guys,
As probably many of you, I need to recertify my VCP-DCV(s). I don't wanna got for VCP-DT or Cloud, because I don't use at all those products, so I've decided to recertify my VCPs with VCAP5:DCA. I've started to prepare myself, but have few questions.
First, I've obtained my certifications in following order:
VCP4 - November 2012 (VMware site says this one is expiring on the 10th March 2015)
VCP5 - June 2013 (VMware site says this one is expiring in June 2015)
So, my questions are:
1) What's my latest day for recertification, is it in June 2015? VMware site isn't clear on this one, at least in my profile, there is no expiration date
2) If that's correct, if I certify before that date, will I recertify both VCP4 and VCP5?
3) If I won't recertify VCP4 by getting VCAP after the 10th March 2015, does that mean I will have to push harder in order to pass VCAP before March?
Thanks in advance!

Essendon Member Posts: 4,546 ■■■■■■■■■■1). Yeah they arent too clear about it, are they! Till about 2 months ago, my VCP had an expiration date. Then I logged in one day, there was no expiration date. Bizarrely, the date came back a week later and then disappeared again. Either VMware arent sure of what they are doing or the work's in progress (likelier). In your case though, since you dont have a VCAP test passed your VCP will likely have an expiration date sooner rather than later.
2). Just do the DCA5 and you'll renew your VCP 5. Dont worry about the VCP 4, legacy by now (my opinion).
3). You have till June '15 to pass the DCA 5, enough time to do so. Just lab real hard.
Hope this helps. -
Highl1 Member Posts: 24 ■■■□□□□□□□Thanks man, I also thought June 15 is the deadline. What about VCP4, that's legacy and won't get recertified or? Kinda a bummer to lose something I invested both money and time, just to retire it

Essendon Member Posts: 4,546 ■■■■■■■■■■Dunno about the VCP 4, post that question on the VMware Community Forums and let us know too. Honestly though, who cares about the VCP 4 any more? I know you spent time and effort into it, and the VCP 5 supersedes it (kind of at least) so as long as you recertify the VCP 5 that's all that matters I think. I wouldnt worry about it if I were you.

GSXRules Member Posts: 109My understanding is there were many issues with the displayed date, among other things there is only one expiration date - that of the last cert you received. If you have 6 certs there is still only 1 expiration date.
According to what you posted, you have until June 2015 to pass any VCP or VCAP exam. Note that you are required to have a "current" VCP (not a "4") to take a VCAP exam now that the VCAP4s are retired.
The "old" certs are no longer valid and cannot be used once expired. Note that if you only had VCP4, passing any current VCP or VCAP will "renew" (convert) your VCP4 to VCP5-DCV and you will not longer be allowed to claim VCP4.
There are only a handful of people that will be able to claim VCP4 after March 2015 (anyone passing VCP4 after March 2013) and then only until 2 years after they achieved it. -
jibbajabba Member Posts: 4,317 ■■■■■■■■□□Errr, interesting you mention that Ess, just had a look myself. After I got the VCP-CLOUD, my VCP3/4/5 didn't renew even though they should have. VMware told me they are still working on the systems (Love how VMware always seem to throw new stuff out there without properly finishing them), now none of my VCPs have an expiration date.
Edit; how did my post just end up here ? I posted that 2 days ago *confused*My own knowledge base made public: http://open902.com -
Essendon Member Posts: 4,546 ■■■■■■■■■■Gotta agree with you there jibba, they do sometimes GA things without having exhaustively tested them. Or perhaps they do test them but dont think it out from a consumer's perspective (SSO springs to mind). Anyways, I still greatly admire them for all they have given us.
Your VCP 5 will have an expiration date soon enough, so get your butt in gear and pass a VCAP!
